looks like huckabee won the republican, romney 2nd

osama-obama got 1st for dems
followed by: (this surprised me) edwards, then clinton

what do ya'll think?

my opinion: Iowa doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.  But this was a big step for Huckabee.  Romney out-spent him.  And also a minor set back for hillary.  New Hampshire should be interesting.  I predict Hillary will win there.  Huckabee will probably sweep the Republican prim.

I too was surprised to see Edwards finish ahead of Hillary.  I think it takes a lot of steam out of her campaign, and if she doesn't keep it close in New Hampshire it could get ugly.

I wasn't so surprised to see Huckabee win.  He brought out the evangelical votes, and we all know they ain't votin' for no Morman.  I was surprised to see Guliani finish in 6th, though.  I thought he would have a much better showing.

Unfortunately, the Hildebeast if far from dead.  I can't even tell the difference between these Socialists anymore.  It's all about Gom'et's gonna give you this...  Gom'et's gonna give you that...  Gom'et's gonna fleece "the rich"...  Gom'et's gonna tax the smokers...  Gom'ets gonna give you healthcare...  They are so busy campaigning against Bush, I don't even understand their "issues" anymore.

Huck wasn't a big surprise for Iowa, but Guliani was...

Iowa is the initial test and to that extent it is somewhat important.  It is a liberal state for the most part so I think to that extent it is interesting to see how soundly the Hildebeast was rejected (an 8.11 percent variance is nothing to ignore as close as elections have been lately).  Perhaps it is an indication that the Dems are tired of the Clintons.  And it really is a defeat for her...with Bill stumping for her there she should've been a shoe-in!  (Bill Clinton is still fairly popular amongst Democrats.)

I was really surprised to see Fred Thompson come in third after his lack-luster campaign.  Maybe he will get a boost from this result.  As much as I don't like his apparent lack of energy he is probably the best conservative in the upper tier of candidates.  I just don't trust Huckabee as a real conservative.  Romney is probably the most experienced but too many folk can't get past the Mormon thing and I certainly don't think that will sell in the South if it is giving him trouble in the upper states.  Thompson has a good shot in the South I think.  I am not sure where Guiliani is going...he probably does have a good chance in Florida but beyond that who knows?

You are right that New Hampshire should be very interesting.  I'd like to see the Hildebeast get her ass kicked again.  I am so fucking sick of the Clintons.

Well...at least I can have hope that she'll get her ass kicked despite the polls:

Sure, you are right of course.  I would expect the Hawkeyes to punish him for not making some kind of appearance there.

What I meant with my comment about Guiliani is that I am not sure where he is going with his campaign strategy of ignoring the early primaries.  He is running very well in Florida but that is it as far as the initial primaries.  He still leads nationally on average but his lead is well in the margin of error.

Why? As a Republican, I would think you would want Hillary to get the nod from the Dim party. I know I do. I still stand be my belief there is no way that she wins a general election. However, if Obama gets the nod, I think he may be the next president.

I am with you on that sentiment of course but every national poll shows the Dim party winning with either the Hildebeast or Obama.  The only national polls currently showing a Republican victory is if McCain (who I loathe) runs against Hillary (4 polls taken between 12/06 and 12/20 separately by Rasmussen, Fox News, Zogby, and CNN); each poll shows McCain beating her.  No other polls pitting any upper tier Republicans against either the Hildebeast or Obama project a Republican win.  Polls made by the same polling agencies during the same time period show a very close win by the Hildebeast if she runs against Guiliani.  The rest all show a Democrat victory somewhat outside the margins of error.

I hate to write this but if the current trends are maintained the next president will be a Democrat.

Take a look at this when you have time:

BUT are people that fucking stupid to vote for Hillary?
Yes.

Why?
There are a lot of dumbass folk out there looking at her as the alternative to Bush.  Even though he is not running he still overshadows all of the Republican candidates.  As much as I like and support the President he is very polarizing.

What has she done?
Nothing notable other than being Bill's wife.  I am in agreeance with you.  She has no experience and no real curriculum vitae of successful legislation or programs (Hillarycare?  Yeah that was a real winner.)

My only motivation in wanting her to loose is that I can't stand the Clintons.  I have no respect for either of them, four or eight years of their tyranny will be disaster for this country in more ways that we can enumerate.  Of course as you write Obama is much more liberal.

The Republican Party really needs to get behind a candidate quick and start bashing the Dims as soon as possible otherwise this election will turn out to be a real disaster for us (yes I am a registered Republican).
