Montez Billings will miss the first four games of the season due to an academic issue, Auburn said late Thursday afternoon. The NCAA ruled on it.
He graduated last spring.

The former Pelham High School standout is Auburn's leading returning receiver with 24 catches and 277 yards. Auburn's other returning healthy receivers have 15 combined catches.

"This is unfortunate for Montez, but we've exhausted all avenues to get him on the field as soon as possible," Senior Associate Athletic Director Rich McGlynn said. "While we don't necessarily agree with the NCAA's ruling, we have to respect and abide by their decision."

As for Montez, his whole career has been a Twilight Zone episode. And if Auburn is expecting Kodi Burns to do more than spot work, I hope the RBs are ready for a lot of work as well as the defense.

For once, I'm not sure losing Montez in the WR's corp that we have right now, would be a huge loss. From all accounts, the Freshman (which I know is a whole other debate) were beating out some of the older established guys.

This would be a much more alarming situation if M.B. had been a O-lineman, or LB. I just hope he gets his shit together so he's on the field the last 3/4's of the season.

As far as I'm concerned a blind monkey in a hard hat could do better than our receivers from last year.

If last weeks "Scrimmage" is any indication, Kodi will be involved a good bit in this offense. They ran quite a few plays getting the ball to him quickly to let him create. He caught the ball as well as any receiver on the day and looked pretty comfortable at the position.
