Reality TV, for better or worse, has come to Auburn football.

The university announced Monday that a weekly 30-minute show that is supposed to take you inside the Tigers will be appearing on a TV near you this fall. Auburn says it will be a ``reality-based, documentary-style production that will give Tiger fans a never-before look at the inner workings of the Auburn football program.''

Well, it'll be as much reality as a show produced by Auburn will allow. Maybe we should focus on the ``documentary'' part.

It's called ``Auburn Football: Every Day'' and will be aired in Alabama and in the Southeast on CSS.

Amusing.

Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall said, "Guys don't mind hitting Michael Vick in the open field, but when you see Cam, you have to think about how you're going to tackle him. He's like a big tight end coming at you."

Amusing.

I wonder if it's the same show that was supposed to be in Oxford this year, but just got canned.

This one is actually being produced by Auburn, so I would think not.

I think it's a hell of an idea.  Seriously.  I think this is cool as hell. I'd love for Alabama to do a regular show like this.  Not for the media or recruits but because I'm an obsessed fan and I would enjoy seeing it.  +10 Auburn.

Bammer will never have a reality show.  They know someone that works for the NCAA would watch it and get evidence for their next Probation.

Pretty strong. I'd give it a 7.85 on a scale of 1 to 10.

Alabama had a show last fall, and bama fans and players couldn't get enough of it.  It started around 10pm on all the networks, and usually led off with "Tuscaloosa Police....".

FSU did something similar season before last I believe.  Not sure if FSU produced it or not but it took you through an entire weeks preparation and followed the players around in their regular routines, class, practice, spare time etc.  Pretty cool stuff.

Pretty sure none of our players were arrested last fall, if thats what you're getting at.

Oh...

I guess I was thinking '07 when there were at least 8 arrests.  I guess Jimmy Johns was Summer of last year, not technically "fall".   Guess you got me there.

Well that was based on a preseason poll, but since they like those I would say it counts.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this yet...

I will be Tivo'ing for sure. I'm definitely interested. I could see where it would be good for getting Auburn exposure. But part of me is worried about bad hoodoo.

However, it's funny to hear bammers hem-hawing about this. It's funny to see the Birmingham News shit all over the idea:

Hot Corner: Auburn reality series? Yawn

Cameras will be watching coach Gene Chizik and his first Auburn football team. (Auburn University / Todd Van Emst)
I am no reality TV fan, so the idea of a behind-the-scenes show following the Auburn football team this season doesn't really appeal to me. But if you're into the dramatics of typical reality TV, this idea came to the Plain a year too late.

Imagine what a show following the Tigers could have given viewers last season. With the infighting among assistant coaches and the quarterback battle that split the team into two factions, the producers of this reality show would likely have won an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.

While interesting for Tigers fans and other diehard college football fans, reality TV at Auburn just doesn't do it for me. Let me know when I can watch Nick Saban, Lane Kiffin and Urban Meyer trapped in an elevator together. That would be entertainment.

Everything Saban does is innovative and a sign of supremecy. Everything Chizik does is a desperate gimmick. If Saban had inked this deal, it would have been pure fucking genius. When he did that "Under The Lights" thing, it was masturbated to in Tuscaloosa more than cousin-porn.

Had Alabama done it, I wouldn't be all that thrilled with it. It would be cool seeing all the stuff that goes on as maybe a special or something, but I would be concerned that a series would become a distraction to the players and coaches. I want our coaches and players concentrating on football, not a reality show. The "Under The Lights" show was a series that looked at different teams in the SEC, it wasn't exclusive to Alabama. Just what has CNS done that we claim to be innovative and a sign of supremecy? Other than the video conferencing (which happened over a year ago, I believe), what do you hear us claiming is genius? You make this argument every time something like this comes up, but you have nothing to back it. If things go south for AU, there will be many saying the same thing; "They need to concentrate more on coaching and cut out all of this other bullshit..." Part of the reason why all of our practices are closed is because, according to CNS, the players become distracted by the press and everything else going on. Imagine now with TV cameras running all over the field, etc, on a regular basis.

While I love the idea of it RWS has a point about it being a distraction in during practice.  It'd be real easy to lose focus on a good practice because you're performing for the cameras.  When it's all said and done it will depend on the maturity of the kids if they can handle it.
