Wii Punch-Out!

I was unaware of this. I'm gonna have to get it...

Apparently 10 of the 11 boxers from the original game (Not sure who was left out...I'm guessing Tyson/The guy that replaced him in the later versions?) + 2 guys from Super Punch-Out!, plus two new guys.

I'm sold.

Looks like more than two are missing...nevertheless, I am going to buy this soon.  I wasted enjoyed many long hours trying to get by Tyson on the second time through.

According to that chart, I was correct. Tyson/Mr. Dream was the boxer missing from the NES version.

Also from that wiki...

Quote
Vodka Drunkenski was renamed Soda Popinski in the NES and Wii versions due to Nintendo of America's prohibition of alcoholic references.

How much cooler would that have been? I always knew that was what it was supposed to be. He was Russian. Why would he constantly be chugging soda pop? Every other character falls into a blatant stereotype right down to the Latin Lover, and the French guy being the most ridiculously easy pussy in the game.

Also, Soda-Popinski was always saying things between rounds like "I'm going to get you Punch Drunk!"

Anybody played this yet? I have been thinking about renting it. Like the rest of you, I wasted way too many hours playing that game trying to get to Tyson. I remember having a hard time beating King Hippo until I finally found out that you were supposed to hit him in the stomach right before he was about to punch you, or something like that. Then for Bald Bull you had to him at just the right time as he charged you. Ahhh the memories....

One of the crowning achievements of my life was beating Mike Tyson on the original NES. I didn't achieve it until college.

I did a victory lap arms raised high, and immediately called my girlfriend at the time.

"I did it baby! I finally did it!"

"Did what?"

"I finally beat Mike Tyson in Punch-Out!!!!"

She wasn't nearly as thrilled.

Yeah, I remember acted like I had just cured world hunger or something like that when I beat Tyson. I was at my buddy's house and we were high-fiving carrying on so much that his mom had to yell at us from downstairs. Then after the excitement had settled down, there was that emptiness of "what now?" after having spent so much time on the game.

Speaking of hard games, do you guys remember "Top Gun" for the NES. I still never finished that game! It got to the point that there were so many missiles and enemy jets coming at you, and with the very limited controls compounding the problem, it was damn near impossible to finish it.

Landing the plane and refueling in air ruined that game for me.  I haven't played it in 15 years though.

I got to where I could land the plane on the carrier about half the time, but refueling was more miss then hit.

I don't think I ever played Friday the 13th, Jumbo.

My list of impossible games on the NES to beat: (without using the Game Genie, you cheaters)

The Adventures of Bayou Billy
Top Gun
Battletoads
Back to the Future 1, and Back to the Future 2 & 3
The Addams Family - Uncle Fester's Quest
River City Ransom
Final Fantasy (the original)
Dick Tracy
Many of the Mega Man games (although they had some great graphics for the NES)
Ninja Gaiden
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Maybe more, but that's all I got off the top of my head.  I really need to get my old NES back out as I have a shit-ton of games that would be worth seeing again.

I have every NES game ever made on both my modded X-Box, and now my modded Wii.

I used to have about half of them stored on my cellphone before I switched to the iPhone. Damn Apple and their copyright sensitivity...

I was able to finish Ninja Gaiden. I don't remember some of the other games on that list.

Do you guys remember Contra? That was an awesome game and one of the few I remember completing.

Also, Galaga was one of the coolest games of the NES library. I played the heck out of that game in the arcades and when it came out on the NES, I know I wore out a controller or two.

1942 was another one of those shooter games I could play all day.

I found these websites for you video game nostalgics:

You would have never beat that without up, up down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, B, A...

On the off-chance that the fairy tales ain't bunk
And Imma keep a bottle of that funk
To get motel parking lot, balcony crunk.

select, start.

Or for two players: select, select, start.

Contra and Super C(ontra) were really easy games.  I think there's another code for Super C that was up, down, left, right, B, A, select, start, but they wised up and only gave you 10 lives in the sequel as opposed to the 30 lives you would get in the original.

Regardless, if I had the Spreader then Rapid Fire, the Aliens would stand no chance.
