"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

WRONG:

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 25 in 2009). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the Civil War), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action

Maybe poorly worded, but basically correct.  Died in combat/died in military service?  Whatever, it's not "Thank a vet day".   It detracts from the true meaning of the day to include all those that have served, because the day is about those that lost their lives...paid the ultimate price.   Vets have their day too.

I think it is more for people who have served and are now laid to rest. No matter how they passed on.

Veterans day-Is for those that are still alive.

Does it really fucking matter?

The whole idea is to thank those that have served and are currently serving.  I appreciate all members of our armed forces be they alive or dead, for without them I would not be able post on an internet message board.

Quote
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to honor the nation's Civil War dead by decorating their graves. It was first widely observed on May 30, 1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors and soldiers. On May 5, 1868, Logan declared in General Order No. 11 that:
The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit

Sorry to be splitting hairs, but it's for the war dead, or died in military service.  Only in combat?  That was the original intent as I read it.  "War Dead".  Not sure how else to read that.  You?  http://www.usmemorialday.org/backgrnd.html

It may not matter to you, or some others, but that's not the whole idea.  It's a day to honor those that lost their lives.  Pardon me for splitting hairs, but sacrificing one's time to serve, in peace or in combat, is a fuck load short of the sacrifice of fucking dying while doing so!

JMHO, YMMV.

I'm not putting down vets, or saying don't thank them.  Do!

But Memorial Day is for those that gave all!

Well I am a disable Vet-Just got a letter yesterday from VA-getting an extra $250.00 form the govt.

I would send you some-but since it is for taxes, I'd just get it later in my retirement and disability pay.

So I will keep it.
