This is making Ethics professors' heads explode.

He was thirteen.  Does a thirteen year old know right from wrong?  Does he know right from wrong when a seventeen year old is instigating the crime?

How much can a person change from the age of 13 especially after a horrendous event like that?

Has Daniel Hood truly taken responsibility for his actions?  Is he serious when he says he's changed and found religion?

Should any of us even be discussing the criminal record of a minor?

I can't say Daniel Hood should be forgiven and given the opportunity to play college football in the most prestigious football conference in the country.  However, I don't think we or anybody else should be condemning this guy to a life of hell for a crime he committed when he was just a kid.

If that was your ass he had his dick forcibly in at any time, I think you might beg the differ. Does it matter that his 14 yr old cousin routinely likes it in the ass now. I mean, I guess she grew up too.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Cant say I'd want the kid at Auburn (he had an offer form Auburn as I understand it BTW), but he's already being treated differently...and not in the way you might think.  He was 13 at the time, being instigated by a 17 year old.  Any other 13 year old, we'd have never heard about this because they're supposed to enjoy the right to have that record sealed.  This kid gets it splashed all over the papers, radio, blogs, etc.  Also, this was 6 years ago.  Since then he's done what the Juv. Justice system had him do, and graduated HS with a @ a 3.8GPA.  In an interview I heard, he sounded contrite, and sincerely sorry for what he did.  The victim also wrote a letter of support for him.  6 years ago!  Damn y'all, let it go!   The victim did!

I think what townhall was saying is that it's a complex issue with no clearcut "right" answer. And I agree.

There's no doubt that what he did as a 13 year old kid was detestable.  All I'm saying is, everyone has done things when they were around 13 years old that you as an adult look back on and are ashamed of, and wonder why you would ever do such a thing. Granted, not likely something as severe as this, but the point remains. Especially under the pressure of an older kid like the 17 year old in this case. He probably felt wrong even at the time, but was trying to be cool for the 17 year old. Again, not that this is condoning this in any way, but that is the mindset of a 13 year old.

I know this will start a firestorm, but it's crazy to me how the same people will pick an obscure verse in the Bible to justify treating black people, or gay people, or women as second class citizens, yet ignore a basic overarching tenent like forgiveness and redemption.

Not that in this particular case I'm saying he 100% deserves redemption. I just think that he served his time under the law, so it's not Lane Kiffin's place to punish him more. That said, I think it was a dumb move on Tennessee's part to take him. Other schools like LSU and Auburn, and even Fulmer before he was let go, were interested in this kid and then backed off once this stuff came to light, and for good reason in my opinion. Tennessee doesn't exactly have a reputation for its upstanding fine young men. I'm certainly glad Auburn passed on him.

As you can see in this post alone, I can't settle on an opinion on this. That's what townhall was saying, and I agree.

It really kicked it up a level for me when I read about the plunger being used.  But I digressed, and chose to have faith in our justice system...faith that juvy programs rehabilitate kids in a positive fashion, moreso than rehab them and then put them out there just to commit the same heinous acts again.  He appears to have turned it around and matured...but you bet your ass if he fucks up again while in Knoxvegas Kiffin and company better revoke his scholarship and kick his ass to the curb.  This guy has had his second chance...he better continue to make the best of it.

I concur with Chizad, however, regarding Auburn passing on him.  We just don't deal with that kind of stuff.

Lots of Americans, I have found from experience, like to hold others, especially those they know little about, to a much higher standard than they'd hold themselves to.   They pop off about justice, harsh sentences, serving time for every little transgression, wanting a kid to have no opportunities for the rest of his life for something he did at age 13...but let their little Johnny or Sally get in trouble, and their at their lawyer's office doing whatever it takes to save their own, and usually with some "bullshit" story (that's what they'd say about somebody elses story) of how their kid was "in the wrong place at the wrong time", "is a good kid that made a poor choice", blah, blah, vomit!  I really don't give a rat's ass what "Americans" think...a large portion of them are stupid, and very hypcritcal.

Straying from the "how would you feel if his dick was in your ass" arguments -

I think a big issue here is the purpose of football.  It's entertainment.  100k+ people show up to Neyland 8 Saturdays in the fall to have a good time and cheer on their team.  Lane Kiffin and Co. has now forced 100K+ people to scream their lungs out for a convicted rapist.  It just doesn't seem worth it.  Also, you're forcing your team to become friends with and work with this guy.

Well, if it's in TN, it will most likely come from more than a few that have done something just as disgusting and dispicable, and didn't get caught.  They'll be the ones screaming the loudest too.
