Quick rundown on what I saw today:
The biggest thing was the offense, which looked like it had direction for the first time in ages. Did some really good things but I'd like to have seen the 1's running against the 1's all day to get a better feel for it. The new system looks tough to stop. It's not like last year where they seemed like they were trying something new every series. This is wide open but everything comes off of 4-5 set plays with a wrinkle here and there.
Playmakers. Null and void last year. Fannin is becoming a beast. Tate looked fast and fluid. Onterrio made it move ...more than once. The receivers still had several drops but still looked MUCH better than last year overall. Harry Adams dropped a couple but redeemed himself later. Terrell on the fake option end around gave me a full on boner. Caudle was the better QB, hands down today.
Our OLinemen are all back to some serious playing weights with Ziemba finally listed over 300 lbs. Franklin was a fuck for having all these guys drop big weight. Our starting 5 are big and physical. Desperately need to find 3-4 guys to step in behind them. Low numbers on the line.
As I stated earlier, I'd go to war with our defensive starters against anyone. We still don't have numbers but it was good to see guys like Savage, Wadley, Henderson, Bell etc. get good reps. Goggans is a sick ass puppy. Ricks and Blanc got big time push up the middle. Didn't see Clayton play. He was dressed out but wearing a baseball cap most of the time. Anyone know his status?
Chad was right about Alberts. Solid little, do-everything guy. Special teams looked good to. Overall, they look focused and actually have direction and a clear understanding of what they're trying to do. Starters on both sides of the ball look damn good. Just have to avoid the injury bug to be successful this year. If they get some injuries, it could be a tough one. But, keep the starters healthy...and they could make some noise.
