Love him or hate him, the history this guy is making and in the fashion he's doing it is nothing short of phenomenal.

It was a fantastic comeback on Sunday.  The birdie putt on #18 was vintage Tiger.  He's just getting geared up for the Masters.

I love to watch him.  I love the drama.  I love the story.  It boggles my mind that some people don't but to each his own.

HOWEVER, I would take watching Fratty Phil use his glorious chest to mount a victory any day of the week over watching Tiger.

I watched a ton of it yesterday and if anybody saw the daily practice regimen for this guy, you'd agree that it's more amazing than what he does in tournaments.  Seriously, I've always heard that he's a perfectionist and practices his ass off, but his schedule on "Off days" is reedonkulus.  I can guarantee there's nobody on tour who puts in as much work, which is ulitmately the reason he kicks everyone's ass.

Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall said, "Guys don't mind hitting Michael Vick in the open field, but when you see Cam, you have to think about how you're going to tackle him. He's like a big tight end coming at you."

Well of course YOU wouldn't be.  But, you just bee the best you that you can bee.

I agree the guy is gifted, but what would happen if a few of these other very talented PGA guys decided to put in the same amount of time and work.  I'm sure that most of them live eat and breathe golf but damn, even the guys in the booth talking about his schedule were in disbelief.  I'm not taking anything away from Tiger.  In fact, I applaud anyone with that much dedication to what he does.

I have the same problem with Tiger that I have with Tim Tebow.  He is a great golfer, if he keeps it up a few more years, the greatest ever.  Still, the amount of hyperbole by the announcers is hard to take.  I can't stand it when Tiger hits an indifferent iron shot 20 feet from the pin, and the announcers just gush over how it's the greatest shot ever hit.
I also can't stand it when Tiger is 10 shots out of the lead, playing mediocre, with no chance to win, and they keep showing him and talking about him instead of the guys on the leaderboard.  Everyone talks about the effect he has on tournaments, but a big part of it is because for the most part, they don't cover anyone else.
Finally, the other thing I don't like is when I bring up this opinion I am branded a racist, or the same opinion about Tebow gets me labled anti-christian.  OK Rant over, I'll put the soapbox away.

You jest don't likes that colored golfer, do ya' boy?

I'm in agreement with everything as long as the beef is with the media.  Neither Woods nor Tebow can really be blamed for how the media constantly puts them on a pedastol.  They both appear to be guys who work their asses off to be the best at their craft and I've rarely heard either say much of anything out of line or controversial, despite the fact that the media hangs on...and spins every word out of their mouths.

I agree it's not exactly Tiger's fault, but he doesn't do anything to keep it from happening either.  Same for Tebow.   I mean, take for example this, which I found on a Scout site:

http://www.fasttimesinthesec.com/2009/03/florida-gators-set-tebows-promise-in.html

Absolutely stupidly over the top ridiculous.  I mean, the kid could have said, hey guys, that's kind of embarrassing, how about waiting till after next year, lets see how things go before putting that up.  Here's some commentary on  the national championship game and how bad the announcers were knocking each other out of the way to suck Tebow's balls:

http://ballhype.com/video/everybody_loves_tim_tebow/

Kind of got off topic there, but both of these guys and their coverage chap my ass.

Why would he?  He may play for the love of the game, but he's also out there to make a pile of cash.  The more his name is mentioned by the media the more his "brand" thrives.

The greatest tournament in all of golf starts today.  The "favorite" tees off at 1:52 PM EST.

Quote
Don’t like Tiger? A few reasons to explain why
By TIM DAHLBERG, AP Sports Columnist

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP)—The bookies make him an odds-on favorite like no other, mostly because Tiger Woods is unlike any other. He tees off Thursday on mended knee in pursuit of a fifth Masters title, secure once again with his place in the game and looking as dominant as ever.

His will to win is extraordinary. His fellow players defer to his greatness.

And there’s nothing in golf better than seeing Woods have a putt on Sunday to win.

But there are those who enjoy watching Zach Johnson put on a green jacket, or maybe even harbor secret thoughts of Greg Norman finally burying his demons. Still others want nothing more than to see Phil Mickelson smiling on the 18th green once again.

Not many, maybe, because it can be lonely pulling against arguably the greatest player ever. Family and friends might not understand.

But there are reasons:

HE’S NOT FAN FRIENDLY—Sure, everyone loves Tiger, but why? He doesn’t give autographs, stares straight ahead when walking through crowds, and offers little more than an occasional tip of the hat to acknowledge the throngs following him around the course. Not to mention he curses so loudly after hitting a bad shot that parents have to cover their children’s ears.

Woods may need all of that to maintain his supreme focus, but Arnold Palmer did all right with his career and was still more than willing to shake hands and say a few words to any fan who sought him out.

HIS CADDIE IS A PAIN—Stevie Williams makes more than a million dollars a year to carry Woods’ bag and hand him his clubs. He also comes in handy driving him to the course, and occasionally will help Woods read a putt. But somewhere along the line his job description broadened to becoming Woods’ enforcer on and off the course. His antics include snatching cameras from offending fans and calling Phil Mickelson names, both of which probably earned him a bonus check from his boss.

HE’S TOO PERFECT—Swedish model wife, check. Two cute kids, check. Florida mansion and private jet, check. At a time most of America is struggling, couldn’t Woods throw us a bone and show us he shares our pain by blowing a four-shot lead on the back nine Sunday to lose the Masters?

HE SCARES PEOPLE—Well, not regular people, but his fellow players. Woods is revered, no, make that feared, by the people he plays against, which is the main reason why not even Mickelson has stepped up his game enough to give him a true rival.

HE’S WON ENOUGH—Woods first won the Masters at the age of 21, and has done it three times since. If he wins this week he’ll have five green jackets and be within one win of tying Jack Nicklaus for the most Masters titles ever. Nicklaus would love to keep the record, but remember: It was the Golden Bear himself who predicted after seeing Woods in a practice round in 1996 that the young phenom would win more Masters than him and Palmer combined (10).

HE WON”T PLAY THE PAR-3—The best player in the world was notable again by his absence Wednesday at the annual Par-3 contest, where players show off their games and families while fans get a chance to interact with them. Asked earlier if he would compete and have daughter, Sam, on the bag, Woods wasted no time turning it down. “I am not, and no,” he said.

HIS CLOTHES CLASH—Actually, Woods is one of the snazzier dressers on tour, thanks to a contract with Nike that guarantees him the latest in golf fashion. He’s also lucky to be dominant in an era where checkered pants and pink tops are a thing of the past—unless you’re Ian Poulter. But another win on Sunday means watching Woods parade around in a red shirt and green jacket that would get him tossed from most decent nightclubs.

HE’S TOO SCRIPTED—Everything about Woods seems like it was pulled from some Hollywood movie of old, like the drama of last year’s U.S. Open, when he hobbled his way down the 18th hole on Sunday and then made a putt to force a playoff he eventually won. His comeback this year from knee surgery was true to form when he made an 18-footer in near darkness to cap a five-stroke comeback and win his last tournament. Nobody can possibly do those kind of things unless they’re drawn up in advance. Unless, of course, the name is Tiger Woods.

YOUTH NEEDS TO BE SERVED—Woods is now 33, a fact that drew a rueful smile from him at his Tuesday press conference. His newest would-be rivals are from another generation, and they grew up idolizing Woods the same way he did Nicklaus. Teenagers Rory McIlroy, Danny Lee and Ryo Ishikawa are in this Masters, and there will come a time that golf needs players like them as much as it needs Woods. Nothing wrong with that time beginning this week on Augusta National.

So, there, Tiger haters. That should be enough to get you through Sunday.

And for the 99 percent of the world that will be rooting for Woods, only one reason is necessary.

Because he is Tiger Woods.

I caught something the other day on TV during some golf coverage.....one of the talking heads stated, "Tiger is benching 450".   Ain't no fucking way, he is benching 450 when he is weighing 195.

....I bet there are starting running backs in the NFL not benching 450. Just another example of talking heads slobbing on Tiger Inc.

Maybe one rep?  Does seem doubtful, though.  Although he's swole up significantly in the last 2 years.

I agree he is 'swole', not 450 'swole'.  450 'swole' while weighing in at around 200......he has got the BBonds hookups.

I enjoy watching Tiger play, I hate the knob slobbing that comes with it from the talking heads. I have read a few of books by/about Tiger.

It is not Tiger's coordination, strength, or athletic ability that makes him a great golfer. Those abilities alone could have carried him into the PGA.  Tiger's focus and mental discipline are what set him apart from every professional golfer out there. Not one of those guys out there on the PGA tour that came up through their local country club with country club lessons can hold a match the mental game Tiger brings day in and day out. He is machine. That is how Tiger was raised. Having been around a few 'operators' and Special Forces types, they are just alittle bit different.  Most of them a just a bit crazy. So, I can imagine one of these guys raising a kid on the golf course and just playing mind games with him, day in and day out from the time he is four years old till he is in highschool, just molding him to become a 'golf machine on the course' instead of a 'killer on the battlefield'. I can totally see it. Hell, he is named after a SV Army officer that Earl knew from the war. The orginial 'Tiger' was supposedly some kind of war hero for killing a bunch of the NV. With that said, do you really think Earl was the type of Dad to be like, "Hey Tiger, lets go get some ice-cream and stop by the park and feed the ducks."? Fuck no, Earl was in that boy's head and he wasn't about to let him be 'weak' in any way shape or form.

When my wife and I lived in Atlanta a few years ago, my wife taught at an inner city school.  The year the PGA Champ was in Atlanta, her school went on a field trip on Tuesday to go see the golfers practice.  Now, these kids, most of them from poor families, wanted to see one golfer and one golfer only.  They were about 20 feet from where Tiger was driving, and that cocksucker wouldn't even fucking wave at these kids.  As he was leaving, he walked right by the kids, they all had their hands out wanting a high-five as he walked by, and he wouldn't even fucking nod at them.  He can go fuck himself.
