COOKS FALLS — State police have found the man who allegedly jammed his mother’s dead body into a freezer chest.
On Wednesday police arrested Roland “Jack” Auslander, 69, at his home in Cooks Falls, a Delaware County hamlet three miles west of Roscoe.
Auslander was wanted in Sullivan County for forgery and grand larceny, both felonies. He was sent to Sullivan County Jail without bail.
In October, police discovered the body of 100-year-old Herta Auslander inside a freezer. Police said Jack Auslander had frozen his mother’s body so that he could continue to cash her social security checks.
Herta Auslander died of natural causes, but her son will be charged with a violation of state health law for improperly disposing her body.
Auslander was on the lam for five months before police found him during a stake out of his house.
