I wouldn't be publicly advertising that fact; however, I think that it only makes you evil in the eyes of the Democrats socialists if your company received any no-strings-attached bail-out money.

I thought that you might have been joking about this, AUTR, until I ran across this article; I've been out of the news loop today.

Excerpt from Townhall.com:

Livid Democrats demand AIG return bailout bonuses

By LAURIE KELLMAN

[17 Mar 2009]

Talking tougher by the hour, livid Democrats confronted beleaguered insurance giant AIG with an ultimatum Tuesday: Give back $165 million in post-bailout bonuses or watch Congress tax it away with emergency legislation. Republicans declared the Democrats were hardly blameless, accusing them of standing by while the bonus deal was cemented and suggesting that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner could and should have done more. While the White House expressed confidence in Geithner, it was clearly placing the responsibility for how the matter was handled on his shoulders.
...

The ONE's Treasury Sec, Timmy Geithner, may have to step down over this one...too fucking bad.

That was the whole purpose of the post.  It scares the hell out of me to hear the government threaten individuals with selective punitive tax codes.  This is a very slippery slope

Those fucks shouldn't have gotten that bailout money to begin with. I'm all for giving that shit back to the taxpayers.

How did all these employees getting million+ yearly bonuses (up to $6 million) help the economic crisis AIG was handed this money to specifically fix?

11 Employees were given million+ retention bonuses (with your money), and then they left the company.

Fuck them in da mouf. If a 200% taxation were legal, I'd advocate it in this case.

I burnt too many brain cells this past weekend celebrating St. Patrick's Day early (and drowning my woes over the respective tournament losses by two favorite basketball teams).

Pardon my brain fade.

Chizad,  I agree that government has no business bailing out any private entity with my tax money.  However i lost that battle in Nov.  As far as the bonuses, let me put it in simple terms you may understand.

Lets say I hire you to take over a department in my company that is struggling and lost $1,000,000 last year but I feel that department is vital to my long term success and I want to save it.  You tell me that you have the talent to fix it but it will take you some time.  We agree on a contract that pays you a moderate salary with a gauranteed bonus% depending on how much you move your department forward (lets say 10%)

After the first year of your contract, your department only lost $500,000 and you are well on your way to turning the ship around.  Under your contract, that I agreed to, I owe you a 10% bonus on $500,000 (even though you still lost me $500,000).  Therefore you are owed a $50,000 bonus.  Lets say i decide that your department is no longer needed and I fire you prior to your contract expiration.  Unfortunately I am still contractually obligated to pay you your bonus.

Now as far as the bailout and the hypocritical politician and AIG.  THEY KNEW THAT AIG HAD THESE CONTRACTS AND PROTECTED SAID CONTRACTS IN THE BAILOUT AND STILL GAVE THEM THE MONEY.  Once again, if the government can't run their own house on a budget, how does anyone think they can run a company.

I think that we've found something that we can agree on.  FedGov shouldn't have been bailing these companies out; hell, they let Lehman Brothers fail!  What's the difference?

This AIG bonus crap is a bit of a red herring anyway as someone implied on another thread today; in the great scheme of things $136 million is nothing compared to the Trillions of tax dollars FedGov is already planning on spending (or spent).

And AUTR is right in his explanation of how these bonuses may have worked at AIG.  Not to mention the fact that he also points out...Congress knew about this bonus program long before now.
