Three old guy movies
« on: March 07, 2009, 12:53:53 PM »
Okay, so I'm behind with the times.  I don't give two shits in a tin can about Watchmen.  I'm not going to go see Jonas Brothers in 3D no matter how many times my daughter begs.  Okay, I probably will, but I'm not putting on the doofy glasses.  Anyway...

I've recently seen three movies where they tried to revive a dead series for one last hurrah.  Indiana Jones, Rocky and Rambo.

Indiana Jones and the Crystal Shit was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. He looked crusty and old and like a penguin could kick his ass sideways.  Hugely disappointing.

Rocky was fair.  I hate the downtrodden Rock and the stupid fedora hat shit.  It was stupid to drag him back to that level and the whole "wasted all my money" stuff.  He should have sold drugs or something.  The preachy scenes about doing what you do were treacle. And I can't see anybody getting overly excited about watching an 80-year old guy get his ass kicked again.  Besides, in Rocky 45 didn't he have some kind of significant damage that precluded him getting in the ring again? Was there some miracle healing?  Because if there was, they should have healed his fucking face.

Rambo was actually pretty good.  I could see John wrangling snakes.  The setup was sort of stupid and needed some additional exposition, but beyond that it was boiler plate and relatively enjoyable.

I am aware that these movies are all years old, but I don't care.  I wouldn't pay to see them and Netflix just delivered.

I thought the last Rocky was good.  It was the perfect Rocky III if you ask me.  III-V in the series weren't really needed.  A few of them were entertaining, but they were made only to make money.

If the story would have jumped from Rocky winning the belt to Rocky as a 60 year old struggling restaurant owner getting another shot, then it would have been perfect.

Agreed.  Indiana Jones and Aliens go together like skittles and douche.

That analogy makes me think that you have some sort of story to tell...

Seen the very last Indys and Rockys, and despised the former and enjoyed the latter.

Yet to see the final Rambo.  Going to get the BluRay and get loud one night.

If you want a great old guys movie, you need to go see Grand Torino.  I thought it was outstanding

I have a source. Got an Oscar evaluation copy before it even came out in theaters.

It was okay. I saw the end coming.

So is that a good recommendation?  I'd heard that it was good but I have my doubts about anything from Holly-weird lately.

Eastwood isn't Hollywood, really.

It's a decent story.  A little cliched and some of the characters were really stereotypical caricatures.  It needed some backfill here and there.

I think he probably should have gotten someone other than himself to play the lead role.  He's pretty fucking gimpy.

I could see maybe DeNiro or Hackman or Redford (possibly) in the role.

But it was okay.  Watched it once.  No desire to watch it again.

I've also received an Oscar Evaluation copy of this movie.  Haven't had the time to watch it yet.  My wife is refusing to watch it as she claims a friend of hers told her it was a "blatantly racist" movie (I'm guessing towards the hispanics that are portrayed?).  Give me some info for which to refute this idiotic claim.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

It is about one man's growth as a person.  It would be bad if he hated on just one group of people but he hates on them all.  You  and your wife must taking movie review advice from people in your neighborhood?  Fuckin' pussy.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

No, she's about as Aryan as Hitler would want her to be.

No...no socialist influences this time.  I think it was from one of her co-workers.

Fuckin' pussy.

I wish that I was.

Thanks for getting me back on track.  I'm going to call her and tell her to get home NOW to start cooking me some dinner.  After that, we'll have a "talk".  And by "talk", I mean beating the shit out of her.
