Give em' hell you War Damn Eagles

Quick question.  Assuming they hold on...when was the last time Auburn swept a series from a West team?  Seriously, I can't recall.

I don't know but, barring a miracle comeback, this ones in the bag. Auburn leads 74-58 with about :46 left

FINAL! 76-58! War Damn Eagle!!

Nice, thanks for the update.  I've been critical of Lebo and I can't say I've watched or listened to enough of these wins to have a clue how it's getting done.  Just damn glad it is.  Hope Lebo has found the formula for this program.  It's been quite a few years since we've had this kind of success in basketball.  Even though it may not turn out to be enough to get an invite to the dance...it's nice to see.

I was watching ESPN earlier and they had a segment about what the committee really looks at.  One of the selection committee members gave them some insight.  The thing I found interesting was they said they didn't take conference affiliation into consideration...yeah right.  But, they did say they looked at results against teams with a high RPI far more than a teams actual RPI.  So, you could have an RPI rating of 70 but if you have 3-4 wins against top quality opponents, you get a much harder look.

The other factor definitely in Auburn's favor, is how you look at the end of the season.  How did you play down the stretch.  Right now, the good guys are making a statement.

Auburn's RPI last I checked was in the 80s.  The guys who are supposed to know said that AU would have to win the tournament.  No chance of an at-large regardless of how well they played the last few days.  Don't know that I buy that 100%, but that's the word.

Not sure what to think at this point.  I'm still of the mind that a senior-laden team in a the fifth year of a coaching tenure shouldn't be where AU is right now, but I am somewhat encouraged by the resurgence.

Given the fact that both Alabama and Georgia will be in the coaching search business when the season's over, I could almost see considering another season of Lebo.  Almost.

I'm not on board for signing any long extensions or building a statue.  But there is a small glimmer of hope.

I'm obviously not on the committee, but I don't think this is true.

I feel like if we can win out this regular season, which would include the miracle of beating LSU, our chances are good. LSU's in Beard Eaves, so hopefully we rock it out.

Even without the win against LSU, I think if we can pull out a couple wins in the tourney, we're looking good again.

Well, here's why I don't completely buy the RIP argument.  Since SEC play started, Auburn has six losses.  Three of those came against 20-win teams.  Two of those three were on the road.   Another came against a 19-win team.   Also on the road.

The other two losses were to teams with winning records, albeit not very good teams. One of those was on the road.

The only "bad" loss was the loss to a mediocre Vandy team at home.

Even in the pre-season, two of the three losses were to teams with 19+ wins.  Again just one "bad" loss, coming against a pitiful Mercer team.

Realistically?  Swap those two bad losses for wins and the NCAA isn't a long shot any longer.

The problem, though, is that an 85 RPI (before today) is an RIP at this stage of the season.

What makes me mad is that Kentucky has the exact same NCAA and SEC record as us and they are considered squarely on the bubble (and before today's loss, the gameday guys thought they would be in) and we aren't even being mentioned.

Kentucky's RPI is about 60.  Losses to North Carolina and Louisville actually help them more than wins over Bethune and La. Monroe help us.

That's what I was saying ealier. The committee member that came on ESPN said that the record against the top RPI teams and the way you're playing down the stretch counts more than anything.

I had to read that post three times after seeing who posted it...given your (not entirely unjustified) criticism of Lebo I'd consider that high praise.

By the way, I'm late to the board on this but I did watch the game last night and I was very impressed with the performance.

Hopefully, they can take this momentum into Tardville Tuesday night. I'd love to see them get another season sweep.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still not convinced he can do the job.  This is what should be EXPECTED, not a reason for corner-rolling joy.

For the reasons noted, however, I would not call for a campus march if Lebo were given another season to see if he could sustain the momentum that is FINALLY (and extremely tardily) starting to show.
