The ONE experiences ANOTHER cabinet withdrawal
« on: February 12, 2009, 10:25:42 PM »
I was really impressed with the decision of Sen. Gregg (R-NH) to withdraw his nomination today as Secretary of Commerce in The ONE's administration.

Interestingly he did not withdraw due to past criminal activity or for not paying his taxes or for hiring illegal aliens; he withdrew due to his conscience.  And here I thought that he was another RINO.

At any rate he apparently had some problems with The ONE's stimulus package along with The ONE's unprecedented (and brazenly political...and unconstitutional, I might add) decision to take over the 2010 Census under the purview and authority of the Executive Branch.

For those of you who think that the census is just a counting of citizens, think again.  That information is used to determine the scope and configuration of congressional districts along with determining allocations of federal funding among other things.  It would have been nice to have some bi-partisan oversight of the census but being as that wasn't going to happen anyway it's a wonder Gregg didn't quit the day that The ONE announced he was going to handle it through the executive branch.

Not surprisingly The ONE is spinning this story as a "surprise" because Gregg apparently expressed interest in the job unsolicited by The ONE.  What a fucking liar...The ONE, I mean.

Anyway, here's an excerpt of the story from Townhall.com, as usual all emphasis is my own:

Gregg withdraws as commerce secretary nominee

Thursday, February 12, 2009

Saying "I made a mistake," Republican Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire abruptly withdrew as commerce secretary nominee on Thursday and left the fledgling White House suddenly coping with Barack Obama's third Cabinet withdrawal. Gregg cited "irresolvable conflicts" with Obama's policies, specifically mentioning the $790 billion economic stimulus bill and 2010 census in a statement released without warning by his Senate office.

Later, at a news conference in the Capitol, he sounded more contrite.

"The president asked me to do it," he said of the job offer. "I said, yes. That was my mistake."

Obama offered a somewhat different account from Gregg.

"It comes as something of a surprise, because the truth, you know, Mr. Gregg approached us with interest and seemed enthusiastic," Obama said in an interview with the Springfield (Ill.) Journal-Register.

Later, he told reporters traveling with him on Air Force One that he was glad Gregg "searched his heart" and changed course now before the Senate confirmed him to the Cabinet post. He also said Gregg's withdrawal won't deter him from working with Republicans and trying to change the partisan ways of Washington.

"Clearly he was just having second thoughts about leaving the Senate, a place where he's thrived," Obama added.

I distinctly remember reading where he said the words "I won" when referring to his opinion prevailing.  That tell me all I need to know on how much he is going to work across the isle.  I don't know who the hell he is trying to convince, but it damn sure isn't me.
