S.S. Lebo taking on water?
« on: February 05, 2009, 11:44:56 AM »
You don't want to believe me about Chizik and that's fine.  Whatever.

Please remember, however, that I said two years ago that Lebo -- while a likeable fuck -- couldn't get the job done at AU and it would be better to move on.

Some of the same ones who slam me now for being "negative" about Chizik were the ones with the Shield of Lebo out back then.

I don't think there's any question at this point that the S.S. Lebo is taking on water and listing badly.  The problem now is that AU has two major obstacles if Lebo is removed.

1) We're battling Alabama and Georgia for coaching talent and,
2) Jay Jacobs will be in charge of the search.

I've never been solidly in the Lebo camp.  I thought we should have hired Mike Anderson from UAB (who is now whipping ass at Mizzou.)

Unlike foosball, I think the talent pool for up-and-coming coaches is much greater in basketball.  There are so many mid-level programs that would kick the shit out of Auburn right now - go out and hire one of their coaches.

Not a huge fan of the Lebo.  My take going in to this year was very simply, NCAA tourney or let's move on.  There's no telling where this program might actually be had he not fucked it up from the second he walked on campus.  Think about it for a second.  For some strange reason, he couldn't get along with Marco Killingsworth (hung 30+ on Duke the next year at Indiana), Dewayne Curtis(6'9" starting center at Cold Piss) Tony Douglas(Starting guard at FSU) to name a few.  Plenty of others have left.  Funny how those programs all seem to co-exist with these guys but Lebo couldn't.  Had they been around, no doubt Auburn would have been a winner, probably making the tourney a few times....which makes your program more attractive to top recruits.

But would they...?  I posted several times last year about questioning Lebo's coaching ability after the Kentucky loss at home.  If anyone remembers, Auburn got the ball with 9-10 seconds left and a chance to tie or win the game.  Time to run a quick play, set a screen, drive and dish..whatever.  What did they do?  Dewayne Reed slowly dribbled the length of the court, got about even with the time line and launched a contested 3 that clanked pitifully off the backboard.  All I could think of was..."That's the best you've got with the game on the line?  That's it?"

Look at their play this year.  Their entire offense consists of passing the ball around the perimeter until the first open guy can heave up a 3.  They'll drive every now and then and hopefully make a good one on one play.  There are no screens set except above the key to try and get someone open for a 3.  I'm not even close to a basketball expert but I did coach 9 year olds at the Montgomery YMCA and the Lafayette St. Methodist Church Youth team in 1998.  Even I can tell this team is just plain poorly coached.  If they're hot from outside, they have a chance. But what team in the country CAN'T you say that about?

Any glimmer of hope I had for this team is gone now.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

I am prepared to be chained and beaten for what I said earlier about this team making the NIT and Lebo staying.  I must've been high on life when I stated that.  He's gone at the end of the year, no doubt.

I admit I defended him two years ago.  Still somewhat defended him last year but ready to drop manhole covers on his ass at this point.  Think he is a good person but we need a coach.  Wonder if Bobby Knight would come open up the new arena?

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

New arena...new coach.  May not be a bad move for Auburn.

However I defer to Kaos's sage advice should Lebo be removed:
