Don't Get Too Excited Yet

Don't Get Too Excited Yet
« on: December 19, 2008, 12:09:48 AM »
Chizik has rallied the troops and quieted most of the naysayers, but don't go pledging allegiance to him as the new King of the SEC.

I'm 100% behind Chizik, and I'm all for celebrating the accomplishments he's had recently.  Showing the state that he's here to be a relentless recruiter has gotten me pumped up for the future, but that might be the homer in me.  What exactly has Chizik done so far?  Kept Eltoro Freeman - the kid who has been balls-to-the-walls Auburn for three years now?  Kept Ontarrio McCalleb - a JUCO running back who also has seemed wholeheartedly committed to Auburn?

Chizik isn't lazy.  We can scratch that fear off the list.  He's not scaring away current commits.  We can scratch that fear off the list.

As for anything special, Chizik has yet to impress.  He hasn't hired a single assistant.  He hasn't swayed an SEC coveted prospect to commit to us.  He hasn't gotten back those that decommitted.

There's a lot to be seen from Chizik.

I believe that was this.

I dunno, I think he's been pretty relentless on the recruiting trail in the less than a week he's been on the job. He may not have actually gotten any new commits yet, but based on some of their quotes, I believe they are coming.

Gay tatoo design.

The "yet" part is the theme of this post.  We haven't gotten shit yet, but he's impressed me enough to have hope.  I'll be supporting Chizik and definitely will be sporting any Chizik gear that comes out in the upcoming months.

Are we expecting 4 star recruits to jump on after the guy has only been on the job a week, especially given the mess that the PTBs at Auburn created for him?

Big name recruits are naturally going to be hesitant to come to Auburn with a brand new, and unproven head coach. The bad press that the PTBs caused over the way they handled CTT does not help. We saw that the day CTT's "resignation" was announced. I have no high hopes for this recruiting class.

Chizik's first year is going to have to surpass expectations if he hopes to land a decent 2010 class. Those guys are waiting to see what Chizik can do his first year and a sub-par season will not get it done for them. Is that fair to Chizik? Nope, but that is the reality when you change head coaches, especially when you make a change as baffling as we did.
