Now that I've cooled off a little (I'm still steaming pissed), the racial allegations are a bit ridiculous. Not that I think Barkley was way out of line, just that everyone else jumping all over the story was. ESPN loves a controversy like that. Where is the outrage that Syracuse didn't hire Gill? He was equally if not more of a serious candidate there all along. Why have we not heard one word about them?
One thing that's driving me nuts on the local talk radio is all the callers saying that Auburn has a lilly-white campus. That compared to other SEC schools, we have a tiny percentage of black students, and of those they're virtually all athletes. This has been said over and over again by the callers and accepted as fact by the hosts.
Where the hell is this coming from? Does this statistic actually exist anywhere? I'd like to see it because I'd be willing to bet it is false. I had tons of black friends in my days on the plains. None of them were athletes. Not one. I also knew a good number of athletes, and come to think of it, none were black.
