I would cry a LOT! Spurrier is washed up.
Washed up? I don't necessarily think so. I don't think there is any chance of bringing Spurrier in, but here are the positives:
1) He is one of the most competitive bastards in human history. He aches to win.
2) He hates the dynasty Meyer is building at Florida because in his mind Meyer is doing it against lesser competition and it takes away from his greatness.
3) When he left UF he was considered one of the greatest coaches in football history. He hasn't maintained that because he made two bad choices -- Redskins and Cocks. Washington was a no-win situation and you just can't win at South Carolina.
4) He's done a good job at Carolina given the situation -- you can't recruit to there, you have no base, facilities are second-rate and support from the administration is lukewarm at best.
5) Auburn is set up to win already. Tuberville proved it is a program where big-time, top ten type success is possible.
6) Spurrier knows that the media still has a chub for him because any time SC wins a couple of games they vault into the Top Ten.
7) Combine Spurrier's reputation with Auburn's facilities and money and there's a chance for him to regain his stature, vanquish Meyer and prove -- in his last coaching stop -- that he's still got what it takes.
8) Spurrier's relationship with the SC brass is tenuous at best. They hate him, he hates them. He'd be certain to make sure that wasn't the case at AU.
9) Based on the names floating around -- Hokey, GrahamCracker, Dooley, Nix and Garner -- it's pretty clear that this is a real dud year for available coaches. Spurrier is a short-term solution (five years max) but would allow AU to find the superstar in the making and bring them in the way FSU did Fisher.
I see it as a potential win-win situation for both. But I don't see any way it happens.
