Florida vs. Oklahoma
« on: December 07, 2008, 09:09:28 PM »
It's going to be the Gators against the Sooners in the BCS National Championship game:

Quote
It's official: Florida vs. Oklahoma for BCS title
Steve Megargee
Rivals.com College Football Staff Writer

The only suspense remaining in the BCS Championship Game is whether it will pit two Heisman-winning quarterbacks against each other.

As expected, Oklahoma and Florida filled the first two spots in the final BCS standings of the season to set the stage for a national championship showdown Jan. 8 at Dolphin Stadium in Miami.

The game will feature an all-star quarterback matchup between 2007 Heisman winner Tim Tebow of Florida and Oklahoma's Sam Bradford, the front-runner to win the award this season. Bradford's stellar performance has helped Oklahoma become the first team in NCAA history to score at least 60 points in five consecutive games.

Other BCS matchups are USC-Penn State in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, Cincinnati-Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, Alabama-Utah in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2 and Texas-Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 5.

This championship game also represents a reunion of sorts for Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, who worked as a defensive coordinator on former Gators coach Steve Spurrier's Florida staff from 1996-98. When Spurrier left Florida at the end of the 2001 season, Stoops was the first person Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley pursued for the job. Stoops chose to stay in Oklahoma, and the Gators hired Ron Zook instead. Zook was fired during the 2004 season, and Urban Meyer was hired after that season.

While Oklahoma and Florida celebrated the BCS announcements, Texas and Boise State had reason to gripe.

Florida's 31-20 victory over top-ranked Alabama in the SEC Championship Game allowed the Gators to leapfrog Texas in the BCS standings and earn a shot at the national title. One week earlier, Oklahoma had moved ahead of Texas in similar fashion, though Texas had beaten the Sooners on a neutral field during the regular season.

Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech finished in a three-way tie for first place in the Big 12 South Division. Under the fifth Big 12 tiebreaker, Oklahoma earned the spot in the Big 12 Championship Game as the highest-rated team in the BCS standings. Oklahoma then earned its date in Miami by whipping Missouri 62-21 in the Big 12 title game.

Stoops had pointed out that Texas' head-to-head victory over the Sooners shouldn't be the sole consideration because Texas Tech had beaten Texas and Oklahoma had blown out Texas Tech.

Ohio State earned the Fiesta Bowl date instead of Boise State even though Boise State (12-0) had a better record than the Buckeyes and was ranked higher in the BCS standings. The draw of Ohio State and its large alumni base was apparently too enticing for Fiesta officials.

Lots of stinker games this year.

The only ones I'm remotely interested in:

Florida-OU
USC-Penn St
Alabama-Utah (how great would this be if Utah won)
LSU-Ga Tech
OK State-Oregon
and the one I'm most excited about - Ole Miss-Texas Tech.

Holy crap, does this season just scream for an 8 team playoff more than any other, or what?  All kidding aside, there's at least that many teams that won't get to play for the marbles because they had a bad night at the wrong time.  How is Texas' defeat worse than OU's?  They beat OU.  How does USC get left out because of an early season loss on the road to OSU?  Why does Texas Tech get the shaft because they faced OU on the road after a murderous stretch of games where they passed each and every test?  How does Alabama get screwed because of one loss to the #4 team in the nation at the end of the season?  An EXTRA game, by the way, that USC did NOT have to play. Penn State...one slip up and left out?

Damn people, let them prove it on the field.  If the PAC 10 really sucks and USC is overrated, then they'll get bitch slapped, right?  Texas got beat on a miracle last second play. That's the lone blemish.  Why should they be punished?  This system SUX.

Okay, here's the scenario:

Oklahoma vs. Penn State

Florida vs. Texas Tech

Texas vs. Utah

Alabama vs. USC

Game played at the higher ranked teams' field.  The Sugar, Orange, Fiesta and Rose (Assuming those fucks get on board) host the semi's.  The final is played one week later, exactly when the BCS championship is scheduled for now at a site to be determined.  (I can't think that far ahead)

Are you pumped now about the bowl season?  Please tell me how this fucks up college football.  Please tell me how every single fucking game doesn't count.  You slip up more than once in this season, you're toast.  What an incredible post season.

Prepare for the whining from Bama fans to start in earnest on Monday.  This is what I heard today:

Why should Florida get to go to the BCS game?  They got one loss just like we do.  But we lost to Florida and they lost to Ole Miss. Who had the worse loss, them or us?  It's not fair.   The only thing that would be right would be for us to play Florida for the BCS, because Oklahoma or Texas or USC isn't any good and is gonna get beat anyway. The BCS screwed us.  A one loss team is a one loss team, so you got to look at the whole season, not just one game.

The problem with your argument is that it is soundly logical.

Seriously, who in their right mind can say these shit-assed bowl games we're gonna get are anywhere NEAR as exciting as those top 8 teams squaring off on the field? Think Sweet 16 hype times 10 billion.

Actually, this year I'd like to see the top 12 teams have a chance to dance.

That's about it for me, too...might throw in Texas-Ohio State.

Almost 1/3 of the bowl games have an ACC team in them...10 bids for the basketball league.  Unreal.

Greed is the reason we cant have a playoff, the only way to force a playoff if for the fans to quit going to the games, and not support the sponsors of the bowl games.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

It will only intensify.  I heard Saint Saban making the same comments.  He's as big a loser as the fans.

The biggest reason I don't think we can go more than a couple of extra games (8 team playoff) is travel.  I can't see any team's fan base being able to make 3 big trips in a month post season.

There were far less crimpsum flags and shirts flying around my area yesterday.

I realize this, and because of it, I will be spearheading the campaign to ban all bowl games and their sponsors in 2009. I say we start the campaign here. Buy a domain name like banthebcs.com and get it as much attention as possible. Leave the bowl seats empty. Switch from Tostitos to your next favorite tortilla chip. Throw out your Nokia phone. Send your packages UPS instead of Fed-Ex, and make your copies at Office Max instead of Fed-Ex Kinko's. Citigroup's in enough trouble as it is. Push them over the edge. But don't stop there. I'm talking never stay at the Gaylord Hotels in Nashville, stay out of AutoZone, and ban Papa Johns no matter how much better you think their pizza is.

I am prepared to go national with an organized campaign here. Who's with me?

By the way banthebcs.com & banthebcs.net are already bought (and being poorly utilized).

bcsban.com is parked, but bcsban.net appears to be available.
