I know I posted on this topic several years back, but I think the movie going experience is quickly becoming a thing of the past. I have no numbers to back it up, but it just seems you don't hear much of anything about movies coming to theaters, and how long they are there, or setting records etc.
I used to love the theater experience. The theater itself, the previews, the $15.00 tub of popcorn with a quart of that liquid gold all over it. Unless I'm mistaken, the last movie I saw in a theater was Top Gun Maverick. Don't know the reason, other than I rarely see advertisements for them. There's very little hype, and when I pull up the movies to see what's playing, it's a long list of, never heard of it. Currently, at one of the main theaters here:
Dog Man
Companion
Love Hurts (Nazareth?)
Flight Risk
Heart Eye
Mustafa: The Lion Kong
One of Them Days
Sonic The Hedge Hog
Moana
Valiant One
Brave The Dark
Wolf Man
Okay, two cartoons I recognize, and I have seen previews for Wolf Man, which I paid attention to because it looks like the star is Julia Garner, who I loved in Ozark. Other than that, what would make anyone want to take a chance on anything else?
I've been hearing that there's some movie out called Abigail, or Amelia, or something, that's received 400 Emmy/Grammy/Oscar/MTV Music Awards nominations...whatever. It's about somebody "transitioning". Can't believe I missed that one.
Is it all just because these flicks are going to be in the theaters for 2 weeks, then on to some streaming service? Will we even have theaters 5 years from now?
