You guys know I always post about some of the stuff that goes on with our two local sports talk shows. There's 2 hours in the morning, then 2 more at lunch leading up to Finebaum, so I catch a few minutes going to and from work. They've got a good following, but it's mostly the same yahoos calling daily. Well, just a bit ago, on my way back from lunch....
Sammy, who is a long, long time baseball coach, and was the head of Wallace College JUCO program here forever, had a very informative call. Picture, if you will, a male Kay Ivey. Speaks with the quintessential Suthun draaawwwl. Sammy's call went like this:
Sammy: Gary, you know we all watched Notre Dame football last week.
Host: Yep, I thought Notre Dame won that game along the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
Sammy: Well, I think Deion Sanders should learn something from watching that game, and I have some advice for Deion. He needs to take notes on Notre Dame's coach, Marcus Freeman. He conducts himself very professionally for a black man.
Host: Uuuuummmm.....Uh!
Sammy: Every time you watch Deion and his players, they're jumping around and taunting other players and not acting like they should, but you don't see many act like that for Marcus Freeman.
Host: Well, sometimes the players do take on the personality of their coach, and Deion was a player who liked to celebrate and get in the face of his opponents....good talking to you Sammy. We've got Carlisle on the line. How are you, Carlisle?
The producer who screens the calls is black, so I can only imagine the looks on their faces in studio.
