Just a bit ago, I was listening to a sports update, and one of the stories was the 12 team field for the playoffs in college football is set, and Bama got left out. That was the whole story. Not who is in, or where teams are seeded and who got a bye…just, Bama left out. There has been some serious wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Tahd faithful. The question is, who the frick cares? I honestly don’t know if the committee got it right, or not. I just know they didn’t really take strength of schedule or name brand into account. Actually, “right” is just a subjective thing anyway.
I also heard one talking head say, “They’ll rework the rules for next year, because they absolutely didn’t expect Boise and Arizona State to be where they are.” Really? You think they should change the whole system because you don’t think those two are deserving? The criteria was set before the season, and they earned their way in. Deal with it!
Texas, Indiana and SMU all made the field, and none of them had wins over top 25 teams, so I would say they didn’t put SOS at the top of the list. Bama, your one true quality win was easily negated by 3 losses, including to unranked Vanderbilt and Oklahoma, so shut it. Also, when we had a 4 team playoff, there were always legit arguments for somebody at 5 or 6 who got left out. If you’re on the outside looking in with a 12 team playoff, again, shut it!
