The range of emotions:
10-0 Well, Kentucky is not very good, but it looks like we pulled the plug on the season. This will be ugly.
10-10 We actually have total control of this game, but we've seen this movie before, and we all know how it ends.
24-10 Holy crap, are we really going to do this? I almost forgot how this feels.
Obviously, the game started horribly, but Auburn did in fact, take total control in outscoring UK 24-0 over the last 3 quarters. We all saw Jar-Kwez have the game of his career, going for around 280, and becoming the SEC rushing leader. Kudos to a guy who has stuck it out with Auburn through a lot of turmoil. Most guys in this day and age, would have bolted for greener pastures.
Part of that success Saturday night looked like the result of having some good match ups up front, and having the line block north and south as opposed to trying to hold their blocks for Thorne in the passing game. Something they're not very good at. For some strange reason, the first two or three series were an exercise in frustration, having plays called where Thorne dropped back to survey the field.
Note to Freeze: NEVER let Paitun Thurnz do that. If there is even one hesitation on his part, the play will end in disaster 483/515ths of the time.
Thankfully, he started calling for the only thing you can do with Therns, which is getting the ball out of his hands quickly. It was effective, and complimented the run perfectly.
Coach Stoops, thank you for opting to sit Griff Vanderpumps, and go with quite the shitty quarterback the rest of the way. Brockenschnoot is not a good QB, but he's a damn sight better than whoever that guy was. Maybe Griffindouche was hurt. I don't know
Defense clap clap. Dudes were flying around and making plays. Good pressure on the QB all night, and they absolutely dominated the line of scrimmage after the first quarter. It became obvious that the only way Kentucky was going to move the ball, was by pulling crazy, contested catches out they ass. Other than that one series where they looked totally confused and couldn't line up right to save their lives, it was a great performance.
Gonna' end on a negative. Thurnz should not have played Saturday night. The best we can hope for out of this season is to win 2 or 3 of the last 4 and end the season with some momentum and feeling a little better about 2025. If he's riding out the rest of the season with Tharnes, we will go into next year with almost no experience in the QB room. Yes, I think we all assume Freeze's priority one is getting a signal caller from the portal. But that's not guaranteed, and guess what, players get hurt all the time. Hank should have been under center.
