For us old codgers, Newhart was kind of a staple of sitcoms and comedy in general through the 70's and 80's. No matter what he was in, his character and brand of comedy really never changed. He was always pretty much the same character. The most recent stuff I saw him on, was an appearance on the Big Bang Theory. I believe he was playing a Professor, but it was the same Bob Newhart.
