Falcons Gonna' Falcon
« on: April 26, 2024, 10:00:15 AM »
Watched the Draft last night.  Pretty much went as a lot of the analysts predicted for most of the top picks.

Caleb Williams to the Bears

Jaden Daniels to the Redskins

Drake Maye to the Pats

Marvin Harrison Jr. III to the Cards

After a few more picks, your/my Atlanta Falcons are on the clock, and wait, we're hearing Atlanta is taking a QB.  No, that can't be possible.  They just signed Kirk Cousins to a $180 million deal.  That's bad info.

Ding Dong Ding Ding With the 8th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select.....Michael Penix, Jr. Quarterback Washington

WTF just happened???  Surely this is part of their strategy.  Obviously, they're going to trade Penix for a later pick so they can get the defensive guy they want at a lesser price.  Right?  They have a plan, don't they?

Then, we find out they didn't even tell their new franchise QB they were taking another quarterback until the pick was in.  No, they don't have a plan, other than pulling off the dumbest F'n move in Draft history, except for Minnesota not getting their pick in one year. And most had Penix going in the 2nd round anyway.

Cousins will probably get injured and Penix will come in and throw for 10 bazillion yards and 593 TD's and I'll eat crow.  But right now, I'm with every other NFL fan, pointing and laughing at this F'd up franchise.

In other Draft news, Bo Nix joined former AU QB, Jarrett Stidham, in Denver.  He went #12.

The Atlanta Falcons had cap space to trade for a veteran QB in the off-season, and a Top Ten pick.

They came out of those scenarios with the oldest, most injured QB room in their division.

That's comedy, folks.

Nah the plan is to make the playoffs with Cousins during the regular season then switch to Penix at playoff time. It's a master stroke because Cousin's is a picture perfect regular season QB who will be benched at playoff time in favor of Penix who just doesn't know any better.

It's truly genius level stuff.

Somebody please take this franchise away from Arthur Blank.  Sweet Haysus, how inept can you get?

In their last 5 seasons, they are 7-9, 7-9, 4-12, 7-10, 7-10.

So, they try and change their fortunes by hiring Raheem Morris as Head Coach.  Career coaching record?  21-38 Yeah, that's the formula for success.

It looks like they may be trying to head in the right direction by hiring Kirk D. Cousins, Jr. III and signing him to a fat ass contract.  Not a Hall of Famer, but very solid NFL QB, who has some weapons at his disposal.  But, the Falcons can't stop La. Monroe, so obviously, you'll use the #8 pick to start rebuilding the defense.  I thought the Bammer, Dallas Turner, would be a great pick.

Nope, they pick Michael Penis Jr.  24 years old.  Two ACL tears.  Gotta' pay him first round, top 10 money to sit behind the franchise QB you just signed to a 4 year, $180 million deal.

Somebody please put Arthur Blank and this franchise out of our misery.

Hard to disagree here. Its bewildering. Borderline criminal. Penix at 8 was about 15-20 picks too high for him.

But even then, if they had grabbed him at 8 and he was their future they planned on building the franchise around, I would get it. Sometimes teams go after the guy they want, even if it's a reach....Worth top 10 money in that case......

EXCEPT they signed Cousins to 180 million. Thats the kicker. Now you have to high paid QBs on the roster. Just makes zero sense. And Cousins was unaware this was going to happen....even worse.

Pains me to say this but I would have grabbed Dallas Turner.....Falcons needed D studs. And Turner is a complete head hunter, and game changer....even if a Bammer.

Saw a thread on the book faces from ESPN about Marvin Harrison, Jr. having not signed his NFLPA agreement.  I have no idea what significance that has, nor do I care.  But the picture was of him hugged up to Roger Goodell on the Draft stage.  MHJ has those dreads draped over those gawt damn stupid looking sunglasses that so many wore on draft night, and didn't take off on the stage. I commented:

Take off those idiotic lookin' shades, and maybe he can see where to sign the agreement.

I go two likes.  One from Marvin Harrison, Jr.

Maybe he signed the agreement.

I approve all of the roster moves, signings, and drafting that the Falcons do, and see them as the clear front runner in the NFC next year, seriously making a run at the '72 Dolphins.

That's very nice of you to say, even though I know you are not a Falcons fan.  It's good to see.....hey, wait just a damn minute.  That was sarcasm, wasn't it?

All I'm going to say is that my favorite play in the NFL in the last 10 years is the King Crab Legs fake victory formation.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

At the number 8 pick? Asinine. While paying cousins 180 m? More asinine. Either or would have been fine. Both at the same time is the ridiculous part here. And I’m no falcons fan at all. But it was just a bewildering move.
