Spring Time
« on: April 08, 2024, 10:04:16 AM »
Hit teh A-Days Saturday.  The highlights were lunch at Amsterdam Café in Auburn, and a trip to Bucee’s after the game.  Oh, and I forgot the biggest thrill of the day, which was GH stopping by to blow in my ear and let me feel his biceps.  Glorious.

Admittedly, I did not pay attention to much, if any of the pre-game talk, other than it being an F’d up scoring system, and four 10 minute quarters with a running clock.  So, if I missed the fact that the game was supposed to start at 2:00, and not 1:00 like every outlet listed, and was printed on the tickets, I guess that’s on me.  They literally practiced for an hour.  Seriously, they ran drills for a solid hour.  The band played every song they knew.  The cheerleaders and Tiger Paws were about worn out.  Even the mic man was done pacing on the platform, trying to figure out what to do next.  If that was the plan, they literally did one hell of a shitty job relaying that to the fans, because we were all in and ready to watch at 1:00.

Consequently, we left a little into the 3rd, and hit Bucee’s. Just a few takeaways, as if you can take away anything from a Spring game.

*You walk through the portal into JHS, and immediately go, “Oh, there’s Cam Coleman.” He’s a receiver and stands out from everybody else on the field.  And even in the drills, when he takes off on a route, you know this is next level stuff.  I have no clue how he will do at Auburn, but first impressions tell you, this is the best athlete at WR we’ve ever had.  By a lot.  This could be fun.

*Again, just first impressions from a Spring game, but it looks like the defense will be a good bit faster and more athletic.  They had some guys flying off the edge, and the DB’s were doing some lock down shit.

*Sam Jackson, the transfer from Cal, was playing the slot.  That’s a quick mofo, and I think will give us another weapon.

*Quarterbacks.  Meh!  Nothing stood out to me.  A lot of the same ole, same ole. But, it’s a Spring game, so…

*There wasn't much to the run game, but I didn't read much into that.  The defense has been practicing against the same running plays for more than a month, and it looked like they were stressing the passing game more anyway.  This O-line is big and fairly experienced.  I think we'll be fine.

*The Long Snapping was impeccable the first 2 ½ quarters.

*Did I mention that GH blew in my ear?  He may have slipped a little tongue too.

Coleman seems to not only look the part, but be HIM.

Robert Lewis was a pleasant surprise.  Can't wait to get Thompson and Simmons on campus as well.  The presence of the new talent might be paying early dividends as Cam Brown looked dialed in and ready to play for once.

As good as our WRs are/will be...I think it's going to make our already talented secondary that much better.  Iron sharpening iron and all that.

The DL looked pretty good, with Faulk making his presence felt early and often.  Still need a couple bodies in there for depth.

I like our schedule and, with a little offensive production, we can take that 6-6 (which was a mommy part hair from 8-4) and turn it into a 9-10 win season.

I was encouraged by a few things:

1. PT - while not a world beater, looked improved.  You all know I am not a fan, but he looked the best of the available options.
2. Camden Brown looks like everything I hoped he could be.  Splitting time on the other side with Perry, or sliding inside as a big slot with Coleman and Thompson on the outside..... Jizz in my pants.
3. Robert Lewis is our starter at the slot (or should be).  Jay Fair & Sam Jackson can come in and let him catch his breath.
4. Our defense resembled a pack of lions honing in on their prey.  Loved the aggression and sound fundamentals.
5. Cam Coleman, if the injury bug can stay away, will give us the great memories that we've been missing as Auburn fans for the first time in 5 years & will be an all-time great.
6. I don't know why we get the best kickers flooding into Auburn, but I'll never complain about it.

A quote from Freeze's post game presser.  You bitches better start recognizing.

All in all, loved what it came down to. I don’t praise the specialists enough. In our punt period today, I thought Oscar was phenomenal and his hang time and directional kicks, and our long snapper Reed Hughes has been very, very solid.

BTW, do youz guyz ever catch "Runnin' With Reed"?  He gets a mic, usually before/after practice, and "interviews" players and coaches.  Did it all last year, and doing it again this year.  Funny stuff.

The man hikes a tight spiral in the numbers, every time.  Like I've said previously, if he could just turn around and hike it the other way, we may complete more forward passes than we did last year.  Heard from a very reliable source... one that gave me a heads up on Riley Leonard being Auburn's next QB (so you know this is legit)... that Reed uses the crease of the scrote as a sight to aim.

That's why I was never destined to become a long snapper.

You cannot keep a fucking secret. I was considering you for a secret Auburn message board but you’ve fucked that all up.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.
