People in third world countries knew this almost a half century ago prior to Al Gore's invention. Did your clan get its news via cave scrawlings and storytime at the table?

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Had a 3 hour drive this past Sunday, and came across a long interview on the radios with Boston founder, Tom Scholz.  Most everyone knows about how he recorded their entire first album in his apartment's basement studio.  But one neato fact, I did not know....

After lead singer, Brad Delp, died in 2007 they brought on Tommy DeCarlo to front the band. DeCarlo had sent in an audition recording to Scholz on MySpace.  Gave it a listen and soon after, he was the new lead singer.  They had problems before their first concert with DeCarlo in that they didn't get to do a sound check.  Scholz said the first song was "Smokin", and DeCarlo knocked it out of the park.

Scholz said he found out a few days later that when they hired DeCarlo, he was credit manager at Home Depot, and had never been in a band.

That takes some stones.

Ran across one of those bookfaces pop ups, wishing Gregg Rolie a happy 77th birthday.  I was curious, and bi, so I clicked just to see who he is. Honestly never heard of the guy.

Well, alrighty then.

Dude was a founding member of The Carlos Santana Blues Band, which obviously, was later shortened to Santana. He was the lead singer on hits like Evil Ways and Black Magic Woman.

So what?

So, when he left Santana, he hooked up with a guy named Neal Schon, and they started a mildly successful outfit called, Journey.  Rolie sang lead on most early stuff until Steve Perry joined.

I was never a big Journey fan.  Too many ballads.  But two of their songs that are both up there in my top shelf list, are Feelin' That Way/Anytime, both with Rolie doing lead vocals, at least the first half of Feelin' That Way.

Two…

1. Stripes with Bill Murray was originally Cheech and Chong Join the Army. The hitch was the duo wanted full control, the studio said no. It became Murray and Reitmans to revamp.

2. Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese) has a brief appearance in Dog Day Afternoon as Sonny’s dad.

I did not know ….

The world famous footage of Evel Kneivel crashing, tumbling down the ramp, and skidding across the pavement as he attempted to jump the fountain at Caesars was shot by Linda Evans.

The same Linda Evans that smoked up the Screen in Big Valley and later started on Dynasty.

I did not know that one of my favorite vampire movies “Near Dark” was directed by Kathryn Bigelow - who I don’t much care for as a rule.  (I also didn’t know she directed Point Break).

If you’ve never seen it? Near Dark is a trip. Bill Paxton at his blood-soaked, scene chewing best. Lance Henriksen perfectly cast.

It’s what vampires would really be.

The biggest weakness is the lead. Adrian Pasdar is outclassed and his accent atrocious.

I did not know what's in a name:

In the late 50's, a man named Glen Bell, in San Bernadino, Cali, opened a restaurant called, Bell's Drive-In and Tacos. In 1962, the name was changed to, yep, Taco Bell.

Not that any of us do Pilates, I don't know, maybe you do.  But that form of exercise was invented by German immigrant, Joseph Pilates.

Speaking of Germany....Germany???  Did you know that German Chocolate Cake, was named after Samuel German, an American baker who developed the dark chocolate first used to make that cake.
