Imagine what he could do on the plains with the better facilities, program history and recruiting territory.

This transportal shit needs to be fixed.

Kids shouldn't be able to bounce middle of fall practice, middle of season, or whenever the fuck their vagina hurts over playing time.

I saw Penn State's running back leaped in there last week. That's absurd. It's unfair.

It needs to be like recruiting with short windows of opportunity.  Otherwise they either have to try harder or quit the old fashioned way.

Actually agree.....its honoring the contract to me. At least for a year....some coaches like schollys year to year, some like 4 years. But either way, once you sign on the line, honor it for the length you signed for. Period. Then leave if you must. A coach cannot just revoke a kids scholly for nothing out of the blue....usually the kid has to lose it by doing something stupid - robbing someone, not showing up, flunking, etc. This transfer for no reason out of the blue with zero consequence is a one way street to me right now.

I don't think it's as fluid as y'all portray it.

Also, entering the portal doesn't mean there's a taker.

Until coaches are restrained, I say let the kids do what they feel is best for them.

Auburn's backup kicker went in yesterday.
Penn State's running back went in last week.

That's pretty fluid to me.

Its makes it absolutely chaotic and almost impossible for coaches to assess roster management. Coaches like Gus were terrible at it already. Right now, its wide open. I think more bounds and consequence needs to be put on it. Its taken too lightly and its too easy to do. The escape clause part of it is what I think needs to be tighter.

I like the earlier suggestion of a tight window that's set in stone.  You have the option to transfer, but these are the times you have to declare.  That way, staffs know what they're dealing with and who will be on the roster.

I look at it this way:  at any time some crybaby kid can just quit the team, right?  So, nothing changes in that regard.  This just provides these kids who might wash out of college altogether a chance to find a better fit.  The coaches are vastly overpaid for almost every aspect of their job.  This is some shit where they're going to have to earn their pay and figger it out.

When the options are:

1. quit the team and go home, with no certainty

2. test the waters, then quit the team when you have a suitor (not if), keep on trucking with a scholly/free ed

When the only option is 1, it makes it much less attractive to just quit. Not near as easy of a choice.

I think it just needs to be made a little harder than "quit anytime you want on a whim with zero consequence"

I like Snags' idea of a window - good start.

I don't think the second option is as clear as you make it.

I have no problem with kids having the option to transfer elsewhere.  Regular students do, even those on a full ride of some kind.  I just think a window of time, even if it's a set time, a couple of times a year, allows some sense of stability for the coaches and program. I also think it allows the player a better opportunity to explore his options and make a better decision.  As opposed to, "Well fuck, that freshman just knocked me back to 3rd on the depth chart.  I'm out."

There needs to be more structure to it, because it's crazy how many of these guys go in the portal and never get picked up. I think most of them feel like if they go in the portal, all these teams will start recruiting them again, and they can choose who they want. Apparently, that ain't the way it works for a lot of them.

Mercer beat my favorite school, Morehead State, 63-14 this past Saturday.

I hope we handle that business and don't frick around like we did several years ago against Mercer.  If memory serves, that game was in doubt most of the way.
