At least we aren’t Mississippi

Government is inefficient.  Mississippi reaches new heights.

I had a temp employee who lived in Biloxi.  Hasn’t worked for me since 2019.  I keep getting calls from them about “termination of registration for my company.”

The voicemail goes “this is shalonda with MDES. It is important that you call me at this number as soon as possible regarding termination of registration for blah blah blah”.

This is how that goes.

Me: *Calls the number*. “I need to speak with shalonda please.”

I don’t see nobody by that name.  Do you know the last name.

Me: No. she didn’t give a last name.

“Oh. We ain’t allowed to give out last names.”’

Me: then why would you ask me for something I wouldn’t have any way of knowing?

“What department she’s in?”

Me: She said MDES and referenced termination of registration.

“What is this regarding?”

Me: I just gave you the entirety of what I know.  That was the whole message.

“We don’t have no sholanda as I can see.  I don’t know how you speck me to get you to the right department if you don’t know no more than that.”

Me: I don’t know how you expect me to magically know more than what I was told in the voicemail.

“I guess you can just wait and see if she call back.”

30 minutes later.  I’m in a meeting. Phone rings.  Same Mississippi number.  I can’t answer.

Voicemail: “this is sholanda with MDES. It is important that I speak with your today at this number……”

Literally five minutes later I call back.

“We don’t have no sholanda as I can see.  Ain’t no point in going through all this again if you don’t have no more information.”

State government in the south consists of a specific type of personality. That’s why it wreaks of inefficiency.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.
