Let me save you the trouble:
The league’s 14 football information directors that participate in
AL.com’s annual SEC Spring Report are asked their take on a bunch of categories such as who’s the best at their position, knowing it’s June and the name they keyboard in today could change over the course of the season.
Today’s Most Valuable Player might not be Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral or JT Daniels might not be the SEC player most likely to end up in the Big Apple for December’s Heisman Trophy presentation.
Shoot, last year the SEC not only had the Heisman winner in Alabama’s DeVonta Smith but two others from Alabama, quarterback Mac Jones and running back Najee Harris, finished in the top five among Heisman voters. Florida quarterback Kyle Trask was in the discussion too, finishing fourth in the voting behind Smith, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Jones.
For now, it’s all subjective and, let’s face it, we love to see who the top players are at their positions entering the season, which gets underway Saturday, Aug. 28, for a handful of teams. Tennessee and Bowling Green are scheduled to kick off the SEC season on Thursday, Sept. 2, in Knoxville.
