Guitar Hero vs. Rock Band 2

Guitar Hero vs. Rock Band 2
« on: November 06, 2008, 09:49:33 PM »
Question mainly...

I'm buying Rock Band 2 tomorrow for me and my fiance.  She loves it and utterly trashes me with it, but I admit, I enjoy it....  However, does the GH3 Guitar work with Rock Band 2?  I'm going to probably stick to the guitar, and I KNOW my fiance will stick with the guitar as well, so I'm really debating whether or not to buy the complete set.

If anyone knows on the guitar Q, I'd appreciate it.

I have never tried it, but I was told that they were not interchangeable. You can find some of these used generic guitars made for Rock Band at GameStop and they are usually pretty cheap.

We only have GH3, but are thinking about buying the new World Tour package that comes with the full band kit like Rock Band. Probably be a Christmas present for the whole family.

Here is a compatibility chart from Gamestop that will answer your question, Going by this it looks like it depends on the system you have:
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6183555/index.html

Also found this article that states that Rock Band instruments will work with the new GH World Tour edition:

I ended up going to PS3's website, and apparently the GH3 guitar WILL work with RB2, but not the other way around.  We'll see what happens.

Thanks!

I'll let you know in about four hours.  My wife is going away for the weekend with her sister and I will be heading to Wal Mart to get GH World Tour.  I've been assured that the RB2 peripherals will work with GH-WT.  We shall see.

I will say without equivocation, however, that I enjoy the RB experience/platform more so than GH.

Besides a few month break when I moved here back in March, Crystal and I have been together for almost 3 years.

Ahh...ok.  I was under the assumption that the March break was permanent, from what I remember from this board back then in the spring.

In that case, I hope your fiance doesn't make you cleanse your colon anytime soon, and congrats.

Much appreciation, and a colon cleansing stopped being a solution to my problem a LONG time ago.  No worries there.

If that article above was right, it should.

Let us know how you like the songs on GH-WT. We don't own Rock Band, but have been thinking about it. If Rock Band will work with GH-WT, then we may buy that instead of the new GH-WT package and just buy the GH-WT game.

We were also happy to find out last night that the "cheapy" guitar we bought as an extra for GH3 works with RB2 as well.  That saved us a bundle.

I have a regular X-Box, PS3, and a Wii. When it comes to games that I want good graphics and sound, I play them on the PS3 instead of the Wii. GH is one of those I prefer for the PS3 because the music is on Dolby Digital 5.1, whereas on the Wii it would be regular stereo. Most action games that I want the graphics in HD and DD 5.1 sound, I prefer to play on the PS3. However, for some games, I am willing to sacrifice the better video and audio for the interactive play on the Wii, such as Tiger Woods Golf. That game is awesome on the Wii. Almost feels like I am on the golf course.

My son has Rock Band for the Wii at his mom's house and he plays the heck out of it.

Not going to get into a "my gaming system penis is bigger than yours" contest.

I have played both RB2 and GH-WT for PS3.  If I had never played RB I would be blown away by GH. But I have. GH pales in comparison.

The setlist for GH is interesting.  Beat It and No Sleep til Brooklyn for instance, offer some different choices. There's not nearly as much fruity crap you've never heard of as there is on RB2. But when it comes to downloadable content, there's absolutely no comparison. RB blows GH completely out of the water. And the backward compatibility is sweet. Merging the songs from RB1 into RB2 is a really cool feature.

GH is simpler to beat. One fault I have with RB is that the difficulty level between medium and hard increases exponentially. You should not be able to crush a song at 98% accuracy  on medium and then struggle through 16% of that same song before failing out on hard. But that happens on RB.  The increase in difficulty in GH is more manageable. If you're hitting 98% on medium, you can expect to pretty easily nail 75 - 90% on hard in most cases.

But in terms of overall experience, graphics, gameplay, musical choice and "fun" quotient, RB is the standard by which all else should be judged.

GH -2.5 stars

RB - 5 stars

The Guitar for Rock Band 2 is countless levels better than the GHIII guitar.  The fret buttons are MUCH better....
