Auburn basketball has self-imposed a one-year postseason ban for this season, the program announced Sunday evening.

The sanctions are fallout as a result of the investigation into former assistant Chuck Person, who as arrested in 2017 during the FBI’s investigation into college basketball. Auburn made the decision after careful deliberation between the athletics department and university administration, as well as head coach Bruce Pearl.

TL;DR version - We know we're screwed and trying to get out in front of the hammer was the only move. Pearl probably swings for this.

Yep.  From all accounts, this was a side deal of Person's.  I still don't get the criminal aspect of it. 

This is the season to do it with a much lighter schedule and the youngest team Pearl has ever had.  What pisses me off though, is that LSU is the one that keeps chugging along with their POS coach.

While I agree that this is a prophylactic measure to minimize the NCAA damage, I do not agree that this is a Pearl issue.

Person got money to funnel financial advisory clients, no?  This wasn't a recruiting scheme.

I heard the eligibility questions late last week.  Haven't heard that he's exploring teh overseas though.

I listened to an interview with Pearl on the pregame show Saturday.  He was talking about his team and the great freshman class.  I noticed he didn’t mention Cooper, but didn’t think much of it.
