Off To A Great Start
« on: June 04, 2020, 11:48:01 AM »
I'm quite sure this isn't how Mike Norvell envisioned the way his FSU career would start.  copy/pasta'd from Mark Schlabach at ESPN

Florida State star defensive lineman Marvin Wilson disputed that new Seminoles coach Mike Norvell reached out to players individually to discuss last week's death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, and Wilson said he and his teammates would not be working out until further notice.
During an interview with The Athletic earlier this week, Norvell said he "had a lot of open communication" with his players and "went back and forth individually with every player this weekend."
"And that was something that was important to me because this is a heartbreaking time in our country," Norvell said, according to The Athletic. "You see hate and you see discrimination. You see some of the acts that have occurred. I mean, it's a problem. And it's something that we have to stand together and we have to work to get it fixed."
In a tweet early Thursday morning, Wilson disputed that Norvell had one-on-one discussions with players and said Florida State players received only a "generated" text from Norvell.
"This is a lie and me and my teammates as a whole are outraged and we will not be working out until further notice," Wilson wrote.
Quote
Man this 💩 did not happen mane. We got a generated text that was sent to everybody. There was no one on one talk between us and coach. This is a lie and me and my teammates as a whole are outraged and we will not be working out until further notice 💯 #hunchoout https://t.co/6Uuy6K7Eu3
— HEAD HUNCHO💧 (@marvinwilson21) June 4, 2020
A source confirmed to ESPN that Florida State was having a team meeting Thursday morning.
Norvell and Wilson couldn't immediately be reached for comment on Thursday. A Florida State spokesman didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from ESPN on Thursday.
According to The Athletic, Norvell told Reed, "I'll continue to share with our guys the platform that they have and the opportunity that is there for them to make a difference, to be an influence and to be able to impact our country in a positive way by the overall mindset and approach of how we treat people to how we respond in situations. I told these guys just how grateful I am to be a part of this journey with them because they are the future."
Floyd, a black man, was killed last week in Minneapolis after Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes. Floyd's death sparked protests against police brutality throughout the country over the past several days.
Florida State defensive end Jamarcus Chatman, offensive lineman Darius Washington and cornerback Isaiah Bolden shared Wilson's tweet, as did Clemson defensive end Xavier Thomas and Duke defensive end Drew Jordan.
FSU players returned to campus Monday for voluntary workouts after a three-month absence because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Wilson, a senior from Houston, is the No. 9 prospect overall and No. 1 defensive tackle on ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.'s 2021 Big Board. Wilson had 8½ tackles for loss and five sacks in nine games before suffering a season-ending hand injury in 2019.
Florida State hired Norvell in December after he took Memphis to unprecedented heights in four seasons, including an American Athletic Conference championship and Cotton Bowl appearance last season.
One of the youngest head coaches in the country when he took over at Memphis, Norvell, 38, replaced Willie Taggart at Florida State. FSU fired Taggart nine games into his second season at the school after his teams went 9-12 in his two seasons as coach.

Here's how a real coach (Dye, Majors, Tubs, etc.) would handle that.

"Alright, men. Listen up! First thing is what we do here in this program STAYS in this program. Next one of you mother fuckers decides he cute wants to tweet, instagram, snapper chat, send a gotdamn raven about something a coach says or he thinks he hears a coach says, you're done here. Full stop. Oh, but you won't be released. I'll be damned if we are gonna shape you in to a killing machine for someone else. Nope. Your ass can ride the bench and go to class until you graduate. But you won't play a down.

Second, anybody in here ran until you puked? Well, you are all about to get a taste or three of that. You will run til you puke and you will puke in one of 8 specific places. We've put large trash cans all around the stadium. Use those. You spew on the ground or miss the can, you're picking it up and putting in the can. Oh, and you'll add 10 minutes of running for everyone.

Third, you have until tonight at midnight to delete all social media accounts outside of LinkedIn. Don't know what LinkedIn is? Figure it out.

Fourth, don't any of you EVER EVER betray the trust that is this team and this lockerroom again. For those of you being punished even thought you didn't do anything wrong? Well, this is what it's like to have to pick up someone else's shit when they leave it on your floor.

Fifth, all team captains are now dismissed. New captains will be elected but none of the current and outgoing are eligible. You've lost that privilege.

Sixth and final, you have five minute to get your asses outside and get ready to run. MOVE IT!"

Basically the entire country is being held hostage by 18-29 year olds now.  Not sure this is surprising to read that the players won't come to practice unless coarch licks their ass.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I don't think it's about kid-ego or ass-licking.

Something very impactful is happening to these kids' communities and the dipshit coach created a lie to seem performatively "woke."  He got called on his shit, rightfully so.  It was disrespectful to the kids.

Besides, this guy gets no benefit of the doubt from this team.  He's not earned any trust to be burnt.

People are making a much bigger deal of this than it actually is.

So what if all of these players and ones of other teams decide to sit out the upcoming season? It will only be the black players.

It’s the same thing as before. You keep committing crimes, the police shows up. Police are 18.5 times more likely to be shot by a black assailant. I have no idea why cops  would be nervous...The reality is their anguish is based on media lies. The numbers do not support it.
I guess if you feel guilty enough, you can kneel and kiss their feet. That won’t be happening here.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.
