There was discussion of incentivizing teams that hired a minority coach or GM by instituting elevated draft position. Thankfully, level heads prevailed and that is not happening.

Not that there aren't quality minority coaches and GM candidates out there. But the idea of basically saying to teams that since none of you will hire these folks, we are going to have to make it worth your while to do so is doubly racist and stupid.

What a thick-headed, ham-fisted, idea! Good for the people that flushed that before it had time to take effect.

I believe that big boy sports at the Power 5 level, and up through the pros, should be past issues like this.  Or a non-issue like this.  At this level, money drives everything, and you make money by winning.  You win by putting the best players on the field or on the court, regardless of skin color.  You win by putting the best coaches in place, regardless of skin color. 

When is the last time Auburn had a white starter on defense?  Jake in his khaki's?  Do you give a shit?  Does that make one iota of difference to you?  Of course not.

The same goes for coaches. As an AD or owner, if I feel like Coach A gives me a better chance to win over choosing Coach B, I'm going with Corch A and don't give a rat's ass about his skin color.  Now admittedly, if clearly qualified black coaches are consistently getting passed over in the interview process, you may have a problem.  But if I'm an AD or owner, why would I not want to interview any candidate who checks off all the boxes?

I think incentivizing the hiring of a black coach is an insult and slap in the face to that individual.

Majority of owners agreed and rejected that. They did however up the required number of interviewed candidates from minority groups from one to two for HC positions. So now a team can waste two people's time they have no intention in hiring.

I think a lot of this stems from teams overlooking Eric Bieniemy (sp?) during the recent rash of hirings. Honestly, how can you not take a run at anybody on that Chiefs staff?

Also has to do with the Oakland Las Vegas Raiders giving Jon Gruden $100 million dollars without seriously looking at anyone else. Oh, they interviewed the required people, but Chucky was their guy from the start.

Kris Richard and Brian Flores were overlooked along with Bieniemy and Jim Caldwell when the Packers hired resume-challenged Matt LaFleur.

I get the knock on Caldwell...you've seen him as a HC and you might not like him.  The other three have far superior credentials, however.

Yeah the "let's hire anything connected to Sean McVay" trend has cooled considerably since their Super Bowl flutter. All LeFleur has managed to do is piss off 12 which isn't hard to do but was generally avoided by previous regimes. Matt L is now anchored to Jordan Love who may be the worst first round drafted QB in a few years. What a terrible idea.
