The worst part of the Super Bowl
« on: February 03, 2020, 08:07:14 AM »
No, it wasn’t lightweight Demi Lovato murdering the national anthem. No it wasn’t Shakira and Jennifer Lopez shoving their 41 and 50 year old vaginas at the camera. No it wasn’t Janine Garaffalo at QB in the fourth for SF.

In the maybe eight total plays of this game that I saw, I watched the Chiefs run a version of the whirlybird.

The worst part of the game is knowing Gus saw that too and began furiously sketching and texting chad Morris.

It's too the point where it feels like everything about the Super Bowl, from the lead up, to the pre-game songs, to the commercials, to the halftime show, has become this grandiose attempt at blowing us away with the ultimate in entertainment value.  And it's suddenly come off as incredibly underwhelming.

I can't recall ever missing a Super Bowl.  It's one of those events, like a foosballz MNC game or most Final 4's that I love to watch every year.  As for the halftime shows, I may be different than most in that I also can't recall one, before last night, that I didn't enjoy.  Regardless of whether it was an artist I was a fan of or not, the shows have always been entertaining to me.  I even thought Maroon 5 did a decent job.  (Yeah, I know)

So last night, they start with some lady I've never heard of singing God Bless America.  When it was painfully apparent that this was going to get dragged out into a 2 hour Broadway production, I turned the channel.  After watching an entire episode of Ridiculousness, I turned back and Demi Lovato, or whoever was singing the Anthem, was belting out, "The laaaaaaannnnnd of the freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....and the hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmme......click.....let's see if there's an Andy Griffith Show going.

I watch the SB as much for the commercials as anything else.  Those days are long gone.  Very little innovation and there may be 1/10th the humor as in years past.  It's now 90% movie trailers, PSA's for women's inequality and lengthy diatribes for businesses I've never heard of.  What happened Bud Light?  Doritos?  Where ya' at?  You get one or two decent attempts nowadays, but there's too much crap to sit through to get to them.

Now the halftime show.  What it comes down to is, we've digressed to the point the where no instruments are played and no one actually has a mic turned on.  It was a glorified dance choreography with 600 people on stage.  That was quite possibly the worst attempt at lip syncing I've ever witnessed.  I was almost embarrassed for them. Shakira wasn't even making an effort to make it look real.  I guess she thought that no one would pay attention as long as she was wiggling her ass. Same with J-lo.  If I spread my legs enough times, that should keep everyone from noticing that I haven't sung one word.  Granted, it's not a half bad strategy, but this is the Super Bowl.  And both performers brought out their own Spanish speaking rappers who added exactly nada to the festivities.

Yes, I sound like the old curmudgeon talking about "Back in my day...."  It's just that the whole production has gotten tired, repetitive and so over the top that again, it's totally underwhelming.

And that was my only point in the txts....I don't even necessarily need to be a fan of the musical act or whatever. Just play some damn instruments. Actually sing. Move around while doing those. its not that hard. Jagger, Bono, Bruce, Maroon 5, Aerosmith, even Pitbull - astronomically better than that garbage last night. Shakira's uber hotness could not make up for the lack of anything substantial.

I don’t know what you’re talking about buy I watched the halftime show and anyone who is even remotely concerned with the singing and/or instruments is obviously a faggot. No doubt about that.

Well, since we're both gay, all that ass shaking and leg spreading did nothing for us.  We wanted a real performance.  Right GH?  I said....right GH?

But man.  Shakira can absolutely shred a guitar.  I’ve never seen anyone get those notes out of an axe without ever even moving their hand on the fret.

It was amazing.

I feel sorry for Cole Cubelic because he wishes he'd played for Alabama so hard; it informs every opinion he has. Let the haters keep hating, Gus and Chad. The proof will be on the scoreboard in the fall of 2020.

the years of suck have made it difficult for people NOT to have a jaded eye.

i'll give you God Bless America but Demi Lovato did an excellent job singing the National Anthem...credit to the NFL leading up to kick-off.  It was fantastic.  The flyover, the kid running the ball, the NA, the coin toss  and recognizing the 100 year team.

halftime ...it wasn't Janet Jackson horrible or Katy Perry Fantastic but okay.  a lot of ass jiggling.  dancing on a pole or with a rope.  i can get in to that...maybe not masturbation worthy.

commercials...i thought best in some years.  6 to 8 solid commercials.  yeah a couple of bad ones but much better than recent years.

the game was good.  broadcast booth did a great job.    i enjoyed my experience...upside it's on much earlier in the day for me.
