Gus is a real enigma. I don't really understand the man.

When it comes to playing Alabama, he has no fear.  We've beaten them two of the last three years.  Nobody's done that (except Clemson maybe?).  Two years ago, we flat out whipped their ass from start to finish.  This season we traded punch for punch until the end.  Everybody else plays Bama like they're afraid. Gus?  Could give a shit. Afraid of what?

If THAT guy would coach against LSU and Georgia?  We'd be talking about an Auburn dynasty the likes of which has never been seen.  But he doesn't.  His butt puckers up against both.  And he's always got that one derp de derp de doo game against somebody we should beat (Florida, Mississippi State, etc.).  I just don't get it.

I understand that at some point early in his Auburn life, the necessity of beating Alabama was drilled into his head.  And he's done that better than any other coach in the game, honestly.  I just wish the urgency of doing the same to LSU and UGA could be instilled in the same way.  It's hard to look at what he's done against Alabama and not have that nagging, frustrating hope that he can or will finally get it all together.

Given the situation he's in (the Bama run, Georgia's pretend ascension) he recruits as well or better than any coach Auburn's ever had.  The program is clean, you don't hear about AU players stirring up shit or being bad citizens. The program is, honestly, in as good a shape as it's ever been.

It's a real shame he can't get out of his own way quite enough to tip the scales to the next level.  Because I think anyone can see just how close it is.  Why can't he take a page from Ed Orgeron's book and hire the BEST people available instead of the people he likes best?  LSU is where they are because they have (IMO) the best coaching staff top to bottom in the SEC in a long, long time.

I don't know what happens between now and next season, but Gus has once again done that awful, terrible, wonderful December thing of his.  He gave us that glimmer of hope.

You are right on, in my opinion. I love Auburn and want Auburn to succeed in everything possible. The football program takes center stage most of the time. With that comes the most scrutiny. Gus drives me crazy. I can't seem to get a fix on this guy either but one can't deny his tenure has been clean. On the other hand, his tenure has caused fast aging and stomach ulcers. What will probably happen now is Auburn will kicked the crap out of their bowl opponent and we will ride into 2020 fall the same as 2019. Rinse and repeat. Ugh. K, how about you write one of those masterpieces and send directly to Gus, signed Auburn Family.

We had three spectacular catches made by three different WR's.  Bottom line is, we executed overall a little better than we have in prior big games.

The question though, is are we even having this conversation if Mack Jones doesn't hit Smoke between the numbers? I'll answer that.

No, we're all putting our two cents in on the thread about who we can get to replace Gus?

Notice when the big 4th down was needed and Auburn got pressure, Mac Jones stepped into the pocket and went out the front, running for the the first down. That's been coached into him (by Lane and Sark).

It baffles me why Bo, Jarrett, Sean White, Turtle, Kahlil, and AU QB not named Cam or Nick tend to go in reverse in the face of pressure. They try to run out the back door with the wolves bearing down on them instead of running through the front door they just vacated. It's puzzling.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Because every team is playing run defense because of our wonderful rpo where it's more just run right into the non-existing gap created by the o-line.  One could also ask why the running backs do that instead of bouncing left or right, you know take what's been given.

I see what you mean. I was referring more to the straight snap, dropback, run for cover stuff we do 10-12 times a game when we aren't faking the almighty dive in the Zero gap.

We arent having this discussion but for the fact that we somehow outlasted them, then duped them. It's glorious but it doesn't change the fact that Gus can't win but one out of four against our biggest rivals.

Imo this Alabama team, even with Mac Jones and their off kilter kicker could beat the current playoff teams.
They are a coverage nightmare.

Felt bad for Tutt v. Waddle.
We did a wonderful job on Jeudy and Deandre and nobody can cover that freak Ruggs.
The two picks kept them from beating us by at least two scores, gave us some confidence.

Upon further review.

1) I do tend to agree with you in that the same gameplan seemed to be in effect.   It just worked a little better.  The offensive line just doesn't get much push.  It's not the sole reason for the bumbles this season, but it didn't help.

2) 2:04 left in the game, Nessler says Saban is going to have another word with the kicker, they show Derrick Brown getting some water and then cut to a shot in the stands.  There's a doofus ass dweeb with a crappy pornstache and then right behind him is .... well... it if she's one of your daughters, I'm sorry.  I would do filthy and disgusting things with, on, for and to her until I died.  Holy cow.  She is smoking. That package just works for me.

3) I saw where Gary said Bama would have destroyed us and LSU if that pencil head poi eater had been healthy.  Fuck Gary.  He needs to take his lips off Saban's weenus.

4) The sound of the ball hitting the upright is one of the most satisfying things I've ever heard in my life.  If I could figure out a way to make that my ringtone, I would.

5) Watching the poofy head lei wearer gimp off the field after our first down play with 1:53 left reminded me so much of puddle-ass McTattoo waddling off the field.  It made me laugh.

6) The three-play series after the missed field goal was really close to being a disaster and too Gussy to suit me.  A dive into the mosh pit followed by two wildcats?  And yes, I realize the second wildcat was designed to catch them off guard and have Whitlow throw an easy four-yard pass to Sal, but for reasons I don't quite understand, the turds had THREE people covering Sal.  That's one of those moments where iI have to wonder if they aren't stealing signals or something.  At what other point in the game did they have three people swarming CANELLA?  Fortunate to get the penalty that iced it. That was good trickery.  But we were a cat's ass hair from screwing that up.  That's one thing that I have consistently dinged Gus on -- how many times have we failed to get a first down in situations like this?  Seems like a lot.

7) I don't have a seven at the moment.  But it was Pat Sullivan's number so I'm putting it here.
