A Quick Take On 2019 aaaaannnnd....
« on: August 29, 2019, 11:20:06 AM »
a question to take seriously at the end.

I think if you look back over the comments on this board and on the talk shows I've heard, I believe AU fans are, for the most part, very cautiously optimistic.  Hey, right now we're all undefeated...except Miami.  The U has lost every game this year.  And Flippee Franks is a bitch.

First off, I'm pumped to see what Bo Nix can do and see if he will be the man at AU for the next few years.  I fully accept that he's a true freshman playing in the toughest conference against one of the toughest schedules in the nation.  My son, who is 18, and I were watching the game this past Saturday and we started talking about AU/Ducks(They're just so fast) in Jerry World.  He looked at me and said, "Me and Bo Nix are the same age."

Holy shit, we're in trouble!

I say that to point out that even if Nix turns out to be the real deal, there will be many bumps in the road to start with.  No way that won't be the case.  However, I'm ready to see what guys like Nix and Pappoe and DJ Williams etc. can do this year because they're the future.  And we are definitely going to have to put a lot of guys in the rotations at all positions to make sure there even is a future.  With the entire O-line leaving (Not sure if it's 3 or 5), basically the entire D-line and most of the defensive backfield gone, developing guys along the way this season is crucial. The good thing is they will develop against the best on the biggest stages.

Enough about that. Here's to some Auburn Football 2019 style.

Now, to Malzahn and the future. The unfortunate thing is that even if Malzahn does a great job this year, we could still very easily lose 4-5 games.  I haven't seen a schedule like this since 83' when we played a ridiculous number of top 10 teams.  Personally, I think Auburn has painted itself into a corner.  A corner waaaayyy back in the building...probably down in the basement somewhere.  I may be off in my numbers but I believe after this year, the buyout is $27 million.  Either way, it's a ridiculous amount of money and totally unnecessary. But, that's another topic for another thread.

The thing that's a little disturbing is to hear more than a few fans say, "If he loses 4 or 5 games, he's gone."  As if Auburn is in any position to just stroke a check for $27 million to get rid of an employee.  Granted, I know it's not that simple.  It would be paid out over time.  But it would still be one helluva painful check to write every year.

Okay, I want you to hear me now but believe me last Thursday. I am NOT advocating for getting rid of Malzahn before the season even starts.  While I have very little faith in the man, I hope he turns it around and kicks err'body's ass up in here.  I NEVER pull for us to lose for any reason.  But having said that....What if????

So here's the question.  And I want you to step back and think about it before you whip out that Creed and thump it like you're looking at gay, midget porn.

Would you hire Urban Meyer?

Whaaaaaaaaat??? Oh hell no.  You're crazy as hell.  He's a piece of shit.  I would never let that bitch set foot on campus.

Okay, deep breaths.  Breeeathe.  Yes, the guy is turd.  Yes, he's walked away from 2 major programs.  The guy lied.  The guy is also 187-32 in his career.  12-3 in bowls and 3 Natties.  Know anyone else like that?  Hmmmm....let's see. That all sounds so familiar.  I think there may be a statue just put up for this other coach and he'll easily go down as the greatest college coach of all time.

We can't sell our souls to the devil just for wins, can we?  Here's a little hint to help you out.  Do ya' love you some Bruce Pearl?  Absolutely!  We all do.  Outside of Auburn....nnnnnnot so much.  In many circles, he's thought of as the face of everything wrong with college basketball.  He cheated.  He lied.  Auburn is "waiting on that letter from the NCAA" as we speak.  But he's ours and he's put Auburn basketball on the map for the first time in forever.  So, the rest of the country are just a bunch of haters.

Urban's a bitch.  So is Saban.  But neither have put their programs in NCAA hot water.  And make no mistake.  He's getting back into coaching after a year behind the mic.  And I guaran-damn-tee you that 90% of the programs around the country would jump at the chance to have him for 6-7 years.  Would we be holier than thou and go find us another Bowden/Chizik/Gus?

No...don't want him anywhere near our program.  Maybe after Florida but not after doing it twice, Dude's a bad egg.

Stepped down for health reasons at UF.  Reportedly the same at tOSU.

Not saying the guy doesn't have issues.  He's definitely no saint by any means.  I'd hire him in a flash. Flash, I tell ya'.

Prediction.  One year behind the mic and then takes over at USC.  Playoffs in 2 years.

Meyer ain't coming to Auburn.  Neither is Jimbo, or Dabo, or anyone else with a top 15 team right now.

And I agree, Snags, Meyer will be at USC this time next year.

Here's the thing for me.  When they announced Bruce Pearl, I was blown away.  That was sooo un-Auburn.  We were all saying, if this guy can't turn AU basketball around, we need to donate the new facility to the Equestrian Team and just quit basketball altogether.  That is easily the biggest name hire in any major sport at Auburn in my lifetime.  And I'm old.

We just don't do things like that. Pearl had baggage.  Maybe still does.  But they went out and said we need a home run hire and then knocked it out of the park.  We don't even consider doing that for the program that pays the bills for every other program on campus.  If Gus does go:

Another Prediction:  Rhett Lashlee or Scott Loeffler.

Hey, why not?  It's the Auburn way.

Had Malzahn been rightfully fired our dumb ass ptb would have hired Todd Helton away from USC because Auburn ties. Just like 'em. So yeah Rhett Lashee, Loeffler or even Bobo.
A seriously proven high profile guy like Meyer isn't coming to Auburn.

Look we are set to win six or seven games but even with an embicile head coach I actually feel confident that this kid can deliver as many as 9 or 10 wins with some degree of protection...
road wins being monumental with a freshman at the helm.
And yes, I'm assuming our defense will be as advertised.

I would take Bob Stoops.

With Meyer guy has straight-up walked away from two programs, not to mention there have been allegations and shit.  His Florida teams had like 38 players arrested.  Guy is a piece of shit wouldn't want him anywhere near our program....sorry.

Pearl was a different scenario, don't forget we also had zero to lose, our basketball team was worse than a monkey fucking a football.  It was a monkey fucking a football while on LSD sitting in a garbage can that is on fire.  Really what did we have to lose there? Plus Pearl made one mistake, I know they bring up the past when he was an assistant but he was turning in another guy, not the same thing.

Admittedly, I would like to see the PTB do something like that...a homerun hire to go along with Pearl.  Not so sure I personally would want Meyer, but I wouldn't burn my gear if they hired him either.  Bob Stoops, on the other hand, would be a chub-worthy name.

Just for argument's sake.  Pearl made two mistakes, the second being the one that scorched his ass.  He committed NCAA violations that would have resulted in a slap on the wrist.  But then he lied about it.  And right now, the rest of the country sees an assistant coach being arrested by the Feds under his watch.  They don't look at Pearl any more favorably than the way we look at Meyer.  But we love Pearl because he's winning and the best interview out there.

Honestly, I don't read much into him leaving UF and OSU.  He gave them both a hell of a ride and walked away on his own terms, leaving a shit load of money on the table.  He didn't owe them squat any more than Andrew Luck owed the Colts.  And in the OSU situation, he gave them more than ample notice.

Look, I'm with you and anyone else who thinks the guy is a jerk.  But, I'm long past giving a shit about that.  Give me a proven winner at the highest level.

BTW, if we did change corches, I too would pick Stoops over Meyerz.  But I wouldn't kick Meyerz out of bed. Wait....I mean...

Therein lies the problem.  If we have $7+ million a year and $40 million buyouts to offer, you would think the cream of the crop would be knocking on our door.

To take that a step further, why wouldn't their agents be knocking down our door.  They're paid a percentage, so....

Bill Clark is the guy!

Did I ever tell you about the time I went horseback riding with Bill Clark, but there weren't any horses around? Well, Clark throws a saddle on my back and rides me around Wyoming for three days. Well wouldn't you know it my stamina increases with each day and I develop tremendous leg muscles. So anyway, Clark decides to enter me in the Breeders Cup, right? Under the name Turkish Delight. And I'm running in second place, and I'm running and I break my ankle! They're about to shoot me. Then someone from the crowd yells out, God bless him, 'Don't shoot him, he's a human.'

I went camping with Clark … I’m in the back of a pickup with Bill Clark and a live deer. Well, Clark, he grabs the deer by the antlers, looks at it and says, ‘I’m Bill Clark! Say it!’ Then he squeezes the deer in such a way that a sound comes out of its mouth — “Billclark!” It wasn’t exactly it, but it was pretty good for a deer.
