New York -- As America prepares to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, some now view the event to be symbolic of American greed and colonialism.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, the defacto leader of a group of four newly elected congresswomen who have taken to calling themselves "the squad" challenged the American people to reject any celebration of the moon landing as inherently racist and she called on President Trump to denounce the moon landing's expansionist agenda.
"When we got up to the moon, they jammed a flag into the ground. That flag represents America, but it also represents a history of slavery, racism and mistreatment of immigrants," Cortez said. "We cannot condone such an obvious attempt to grab land that does not belong to us. The moon and all its inhabitants must be free from the tyranny of capitalism. The moon does not belong to America. It belongs to the world. Yes, we can see it from New York, but it can also be seen from other countries like Europe and Puerto Rico."
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar added that the makeup of the Apollo crew also reeked of racism. "Where were the Islamic astronauts?" Omar asked. "Why were all of the members of the crew white men? As a woman of color, that is offensive to me. I cannot embrace a moon landing that was carried out by white men for white men. It is just another example of the colonial imperialism we have endured since the time of the Crusades. The man who sits in the White House today is nothing more than a tired version of the same detestable occupiers who destroyed my people during the middle ages. When the new caliphate assumes power in the Western world, people like Donald Trump and these evil astronauts will be beheaded in the streets like the dogs they are."
Elbowed by compatriot Rashida Talib, Oman amended her statement. "What I mean to say, is when the great people of this democracy of America elect more people like me, things will change for the better. Sometimes the English eludes me."
When advised of 'the squad's' comments, President Trump offered to send the delegation on the next trip to the moon so they could see the conditions for themselves. "I think they should go," he said. "We'll put a rocket out there right now and strap them in. I think a lot of people would probably like that."
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, when asked for comment said she didn't really remember which movie the squad was referring to. "Was it that one with Tom Hanks? He's such a good actor and a dear, dear friend. Or was it that one with Charlton Heston and those other moon people? Either way, President Trump is a racist, he watches Xena and I had Grape Nuts for breakfast."
