Looking Forward...
« on: October 13, 2008, 11:44:57 AM »
This season goes without saying as being a fucking flop!!!  So do we look forward and pull the redshirt and try to get some playing time for Trotter as the future QB for us?   Or, is there still hope for Burns to come through?

Uh, what about Caudle?

I hate to be the tinfoil hat wearer to say this, but it appears to me that Tubs wants out and is doing his best to leave us in a funk. Fire the OC that could have possibly taken us in the right direction if given the room to do things his way. Waste redshirts.

Looks to me like he wants to recieve a couple mil rather than pay it out.

Stick with Burns.  The kid has the talent, he just needs the reps/experience.

I'm on record as saying that playing Trotter is the king of dumbass moves.  The season is over.  Nothing really left to play for other than hopefully derailing that crimson turd train later in the year.  Waste the guy's redshirt on the off chance that he'd help AU beat Ole Miss?  Nah.  Not worth it.  Pack it in.  Wave goodbye to the seniors.  Go somewhere and buy a clue.

BTW?  Fire Bowfinger.  He sucks, too.

It would be an understatement to say Auburn's offense has struggled mightily this season. After the firing of offensive coordinator Tony Franklin last Wednesday, the Tigers' offense seemed to regress in Saturday's loss to Arkansas.

Now, coach Tommy Tuberville may try a different approach.

The failure of quarterbacks Chris Todd and Kodi Burns to produce consistent results at the position has created an opportunity for another quarterback to step in.

Trotter threw for 7,968 yards and 88 touchdowns in his high school career.

True freshman Barrett Trotter is expected to receive a lot more practice time at quarterback in the next 11 days, leading up to Auburn's game with West Virginia game.

Trotter was set to redshirt this fall, but that could change as Tuberville continues his search for a spark for AU's floundering offense.

Tuberville said a decision on Trotter's future will be based on how he performs in practices this week.

"Say we go in and talk about it and we give it a shot and then we practice it for four or five days and then I say it's not going to work, then we won't even go with it," Tuberville said. "I'm not going to go into a game with him and say we're going to play him four or five plays or 10 plays here and five plays. I'm not going to do that.

"If we're going to play him, we're going to play him. But it's got to be mutual. But he's got to do good in practice."

Current third-teamer Neil Caudle will also get a shot at winning the job this week.

"Third-team quarterback doesn't get a lot of practice, so we're going to look at him," Tuberville said. "We're going to give him a shot. Probably what we do is, if Barrett came out, we'd compare them to see which one we thought knew more about what we were doing and could get it done. I'm not just going to throw Neil under the bus. We're going to give him a shot. That's what I'm saying. Whether Barrett comes out there or not, Neil will have an opportunity. We'll give him some reps."

The additional reps for Trotter and Caudle will have to come from somebody, and it looks like Todd will have to take a back seat - for now.

"Last night (Todd) didn't play very well at all," Tuberville said. "We wouldn't be talking about these other things if we thought Chris could get it done. That doesn't mean he can't. I just think Chris' arm, if you look at it, isn't 100 percent.

"I'm not down on Chris. He's got to understand - if you play like that, as anyone at any position, you've got to work your way back in. A week's rest for him, this week, letting his shoulder rest will help him."

Tuberville said Burns is still very much in the mix to start his second consecutive game against the Mountaineers Oct. 23.

"I think Kodi can do a good job. He'll get better," Tuberville said. "That's only his (third) start. We've just got to get some continuity. You can talk to Barrett Trotter and Neil Caudle and all those guys, but Kodi is a guy who's going to have to be a factor for us. He has good feet, good legs, can run, can make plays. He's got some experience. He'll get better. He had some problems yesterday. He's worked through them. He's coachable; he'll listen. We've got to do some things that will help him, too."

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

If Tubbs burns Trotters redshirt I'm gonna guess it's more to save his own ass than help the team. If we do better with Trotter that may just be Tubbs saving grace. I still don't think we should do it, but unfortunately no one at AU asked my opinion.

In his first news conference as AUBURN'S head coach in 1981, Pat Dye was asked this question:  "How long will it take you to beat Alabama"?  To which he responded, "Oh, about 60 minutes".

You have to do what is best for the team THIS YEAR. If Trotter is the best thing for the team this year, you play him this year. There is no telling what will happen 3, 4 or even 5 years down the road. Who knows, Cotton may be better than all 3 of them combined, he may be a flop. There may be a dude right now in the 9th grade that is a HUGE Auburn fan that could be the next coming of Bret Favre. You just don't know. If Trotter can help the team this year, I say play him. It is not fair to the senios that have worked their ass off for 4 years to just say "fuck this year, we will try again next year". Most of these kids will never get to play football again and it would be bullshit to just piss away half of their senior year...just because...

I agree...but if he is the best option to win THIS year...I say pull it and give him some playing time!

i'd rather see caudle given a chance than burning trotter's redshirt.  Caudle couldn't be that much worse than the burns/todd fiasco.

Fully agree. Burning another QB's redshirt would be an absolute last resort at best. Why is everyone completely skipping over Caudle?

I believe I read today that Chris Todd was "no longer in Auburn's plans."

Seattle said that about Courtney.  A week later he was cut.
