A friend of mine has a son playing for Eufaula and they had their Spring game last night against defending State Champs, Central of Feenicks City. He sent me a pic of Eufaula kind of huddled around their coach before the game started. Looked like about 60-70 players. His text said, "I think Central has 150." Anyway, the last score he sent me was 43-36 Central. I know it's a Spring game and who knows what kind of rules they were playing under, but my buddy was encouraged about at least being competitive. GH could speak to this because I have no idea, but I would imagine Central is breaking in a shit load of new players after last year.
He didn't say, but I think they might have played at Troy's stadium. I know a lot of teams are having their Spring games played there. Very smart on Troy's part since that could be great for recruiting.
So, tomorrow night is the Spring game for Dothan High. Why is that significant? 2 reasons. First, the two 6A schools here, Northview and Dothan, are combining starting this upcoming school year. They are going under the name of Dothan High School and the mascot will be the Wolves. Second, they convinced Hoover to come down and be the Spring game opponent. You guys know from my posts in the past that after you get above 2A and 3A in this area, we have pretty much been the definition of shitty football. I don't expect much more initially, but I heard an interview with new coach, Smitty Grider, and he seems to get it. Grider was the first coach at Park Crossing in Montgomery and he all but said, the facilities down here suck and that has to be a priority. Hell, Eufaula has an indoor practice facility. The main stadium down here is okay for the most part, but the locker rooms are so small and dilapidated, that teams won't even go in them.
He at least seems to get that the overall culture down here regarding football has got to change. Should be interesting.
