Quite a few things happened to snatch that defeat out of those jaws. A few innings earlier when they gave up the first run, MSU has runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out. The second baseman and SS are both playing a few feet from the base. I was sitting there thinking the same thing the color guy kept saying over and over. Get back to your positions. Holding him close to the base isn't that important right now. Sure enough, the batter hits one just out of reach of the 2nd baseman and the run scores easily. If he's anywhere near where he's supposed to be, that's an easy double play.
Before his triple clutch, air mail throw with 2 outs, Julien had already thrown one into right field and bounced one to the first baseman. If he wasn't one of their best hitters, he'd have to sit or play DH. That boys gots the YIPS!!!
Not that MSU was knocking the cover off the ball, but unless you're consistently bringing it at 95 plus, even at this level you can't throw 21 straight fast balls. When they got the game winning hit up the middle, that's exactly what Tanner Burns had thrown.
