A Good Day In Sports

Okay, Auburn beats Dayton in basketball.  8-1.  Not the best game playing or coaching by a huge stretch, but a quality win none the less.

Kyler Murray wins the Heisman.  A legit selection.  If Tua had won, it would have solidified the award as a popularity contest.  Murray was the clear winner.

The ATL...city of champions.  Alright, maybe that's a bit of a stretch.  But tonight, my 5 Stripes reign supreme over the MLS.  Took the trophy to the house.  Atlanta United.  Folks, I'll say it again.  Go to a game next season.  Even Snagette was asking when we could go back again.  Great show. Great atmosphere.

Tua bad...

His mother’s scowly bitchy face during Murray’s speech was priceless.

I would but....soccer. I fucking hate it. I’ve tried it. Hockey ain’t much better. Just can’t get into either. I’ve forced myself to watch and try both. I just can’t. I’d rather watch Tiger and Phil part 2 on ppv honestly.

Two different sports entirely.  Hockey is non-stop action.  Soccer is watching paint dry on growing grass.

I dated a girl from Michigan for a pretty long time.  Her dad was a hockey ref and had done minor league NHL games (or whatever they are).  One step down from the show, he said.

For her, I tried my best to understand/care about the game.  He spent many a frustrating hour attempting to explain the rules.  As I was only half listening, I never got it.

Got a fake nephew who played college hockey and currently does club level.  Been to several of his matches.

I still don't get it.  I can never even see the ball.

Harrumph.
I didn't get a harrumph out of that guy.

I get what some of you are saying about soccer and admittedly, I didn't give 2 shots about it until Snags Lite started playing HS soccer.  I went to all the games and got to know the sport.  He was playing small private school soccer which wasn't at a real high level.  But I'd see teams on adjacent fields who were 7A clubs and holy hell, that was a different game.

So we hit our first United game last season and wound up in the end zone seats where it was all happening.  That place was crazy as hell.  And the way the crowd reacts to every little thing happening on the field makes you get into it and appreciate what's going on a little more.
Anyway, not trying to convince anyone to like soccer.  Just saying if you have an opportunity to hit up a 5 Stripes game, give it a shot.  It's a pretty cool experience.

ya know...i was actually gonna purely for the social aspect of it. Then i looked at ticket prices.....holy cow....yeah, wasnt gonna pay that to get in there and overpay for food and drinks - would have been a very expensive "social hour" for me.

Like K, i just cant get into Hockey either. We had a nice little minor league club in town for 15 years or so. Went to some games. It was def more action on the field (ice) of play. Maybe i didnt understand it....maybe i didnt want to. Who knows.

Soccer is a great game...Well soccer isn't, but the fights between parents at the 8-10 year old level are primo.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

My old coach told me soccer was for all those kids who didn’t have the hand-eye coordination to play baseball or the physical toughness to play football.  He said it was essentially track mixed with kickball.

Hockey is at least fun to watch in person.  Soccer is something my 8 year old plays.

I used to think that too, until my daughter started playing AAU basketball.
