It's funny to me how our little board here is more active than it's been in quite a while. But the sad thing being the reason for that, which is once again, the sorry state of the foosballz program. I said many times after the 2010 CAMpionship, that ear regardless of whether we had gone 14-0 and won the crystal, or 7-6 and played in the Poulan Weedeater Toilet Bowl, my fat ass would have still been planted in Section 8, Row 44, Seat 10 at 11:00 a.m. that next Fall to watch us open against the Fighting Samoans from Utah State. I just love the AU experience and I'll continue to make as many Saturday treks to the Planes as I can. Although, I have to admit that I said nay nay to a couple this year, because as I get older, the feeling of sweat dripping down my ass crack in 92 degree heat has become less and less appealing. Unless of course, it's because I'm giving an Asian babe the high hard one in the sauna. But I digress.
But why do we continue to be in this situation? It's a never ending cycle with Auburn football. I haven't looked it up, but a few weeks ago, Smokin' Joe told me Auburn has had one instance of back to back 10 win seasons in it's history? Is that true? Under Dye, maybe? Even so, that speaks volumes about our inconsistency over the years. No doubt, we've had our share of highs. In fact the highest of highs. But there are always too many inevitable falls from grace. Have we ever had even a 3 year stretch where we thought this program was really on solid footing? Really looking forward to the future? Such is Auburn football. I've learned to live with some of it.
However, where we are right now is inexcusable. I think it's become painfully obvious that the people who make the administrative decisions at AU concerning this program, are and always have been, living in some alternate universe. I chronicled the head scratching history of coaching hires in another thread and asked WTF could possibly be going through those people's heads to think Terry Bowden, Gene Chizik and Gus Malzahn were somehow qualified to run a program of this magnitude? Each and every one of them were matters of taking a chance. Hoping they would succeed. Zero proven track records and nothing to indicate they had what it takes. And now this?
Gus should have been handed his walking papers after the 5 QB Twirly-Bird game. When a sports writer, Kevin Scrabdisnki, (Whatever happened to him?) likens your game plan to a kindergartener grabbing a handful of Crayolas and scribbling madly on a piece of paper, then Houston, we have a problem. The man is paranoid, a control freak, very limited in his play calling and scheming abilities, talent digresses under his watch and his own coaches are jumping ship for far lesser gigs. On top of that, we've long since established that a 4 loss season is his max effort. But our administration apparently feels it worthy of $49 million dollars. Why do we have to continue to endure this? Greene said Gus will be our coach next season. WHY???? What in the Sam Freaking Hell would make you think that's a good idea? Look around you. Everyone is screaming at the top of their lungs that this mission should be aborted immediately and giving you 1,000 legitimate reasons why, yet you remain on an island, as if deaf to the wishes of those who support you and blind to failures of the one you support.
I've said this many times, and too many times recently. I have zero faith in whoever is ultimately making the decisions. They've proven their lack of abilities in this area time and time again. And to have this proud program on the edge of the cliff, is again, inexcusable.
I need a shot of whiskey and a cigarette. And a jelly donut.
