Here’s a radical plan. 

Forget “head coach”.  Forget OC.

Change the whole structure. 

Hire a CEO of football.  Let Gus be the head offensive coach and answer to him. Let Steele be the head defensive coach.  The CEO doesn’t call plays. Doesn’t need to run practice.  Just does the baby kissing political stuff

Can't pay this nitwit two and a half times the national average and call him head offensive coach. He has no more play calling mojo, it's gone.
Gus can recruit like a champ but the incoming talent does not improve.
He can't even score on a marginal hire now because he's damaged... and finished.

Our best bet is a restart with Bill Clark.
We can't or won't hire Freeze, Leavitt, Leach, Sciano or anyone established that just got a bump and nearly all of the young guns have been snatched up.

GF was right.  It's gonna be Kodi.  

Don't get me wrong.  I like Kodi.  I admire his willingness to accept the horrific coaching that turned him from a Top Ten quarterback recruit into a semi-sorta wide receiver.  But is he really qualified to take over as the fauxOC for a program with championship pedigree and aspirations?? 

This is the worst I've felt about Auburn football in my entire life.  And that includes some pretty humiliating experiences.

Dillingham just finished his third season with Memphis, and is very young. He started as a graduate assistant with the Memphis Tigers in 2016, primarily working with the team’s quarterbacks.

The release noted that Malzahn will be the primary play-caller on offense, a role that Lindsey held during his tenure. Kodi Burns will add the role of passing game coordinator to his duties.

I don't feel very sporty myself.  But if I'm being fair there's not much that would have placated me at this point.

I mean, hasn't he been calling them since mid last year? We'll look awesome for the scripted 10-15 and then drop off for two quarters only to revisit the script and make a rally. That will get us by the lesser teams. We'll get shellacked by the likes of Florida, TAMU, LSU, Georgia, and Alabama next year. Oh, and Oregon is going to tear us a new one.

I know it's trendy to shit all over all things AU football right now, but this wasn't the worst hire we could have made.  It's a far better hire than the RB coach at USCe or KB.

That said, the whole situation is still fucked.  But this is a decent hire.

So, looking at this through the brightest of sunshine glasses, maybe he can improve the run game philosophy. Memphis plowed through people like Harvey Weinstein at Sundance so there's reason to hope it can be good for Boobie, Kam, and whatever is behind them. Moreover, maybe he can help the offensive line be more offensive line and less offensive.

This guy is a legit qb coach. Nix is a special qb. Gus seems to be trending back towards the model that gave him magic in 13-14. I’m afraid they will have enough success not to be able to fire him next year. That’s my fear here.
