Two Random Topics For Discussion
« on: November 07, 2018, 02:48:22 PM »
Both Malzahn and Allen Green have expressed interest in moving the FUGA game to earlier in the schedule to give some "breathing room", according to Green, between that game and the Iron Bowl.  FUGA's AD chimed in, saying they're open to it.  Whatcha' thank, Paawwwl?  Would any of you be in favor of moving it?  It's been in that slot as long as I can remember and yes, I'm a big fan of tradition.  Personally, I don't see the need.  What additional breathing room do you need when part of the tradition is playing a cupcake in between FUGA and the Iron Bowl?  My only suggestion would be to do what FUGA had to do when they came to the Planes 2 years in a row.  I'd go 2 in a row to that shit hole, Athens, to keep that game and the Iron Bowl not as away games every other year.

Second, just a quick mention of the playoff system.  I've long advocated for 8 teams.  I won't go into reasons or how to pick the 8.  Use the old computer rankings.  Use the committee.  Let writers and coaches vote.  I don't care. Whatever. But what I would also advocate for is go to 8 teams and do away with the stupid conference championship games.  Just go right into the playoffs.  Let's say the season ended today with the current playoff rankings.  You'd start with a weekend of:

Washington State vs. Bama

Clemson vs. LSU (Who has no business in the top 8)

Notre Dame vs. Oklahoma

Michigan vs. FUGA

I believe I'd load up a Yeti full of beer, put out the snacks and cook some kind of meat low and slow on the Big Green Egg and get ready for some football.

What say you?

From my understanding, the moving the game forward was to try and get away from the current home-home / road - road series between our two biggest rivals.  Which I am all for!!! From a fan standpoint, it would be hard to get to both those games and sucks in our even years when they are both away and from a player, standpoint seeing how it is hard on the team to travel.

Either way though, I don't really care what time of the year we play FUGA as long as we can get away from the above. There is also mention to possibly move Alabama around, that I wouldn't want. I want them the last game of the year.

No doubt Alabama needs to be the finale.

I'm good with an 8 team playoff but I don't think you get rid of the conference championship games, I think those are play-in games, with 3 at large teams. I think you make the teams play 11 games, with only one FBS opponent allowed.

I know there is the argument well you could have a shitty 7-5 team in the conference championship and what if they win?  I'm fine with that, the better team should win, its the same thing in the playoffs.  Look at bama last year didn't win the conference still went on to win the NC.  Look at the NY Giants they were a wild card that beat an undefeated Patriots team.  IMO if you keep the conference games it essentially makes it a 13 team playoff. (The Power 5 conferences each play a championship (10 teams))

The other side is last year, without a conference championship game, we're a 3 seed in the playoffs and don't have to beat FUGA twice in 3 weeks.  You give Malzahn more chances to fuck it up...he won't disappoint.

Move the game and fix this two there, two here schedule screw up while they are at it. Hell, move us to the EAST anyway.

As for the playoff, if we are going to keep deciding it with a bunch of halfwits in a conference room, I don't care how big it is, it'll still be screwball. How can every other sports in NCAA up and down figure this out and D1 can't? Oh yeah, money.

I don't care. Just get a coach who knows how to DEVELOP talent as much as recruit it. Tired of being told we are gold when we are really the kind a gold you buy at the kiosk in the mall.

EITHER:

BRING ME KEN NIUMATALOLO and RUN GOD'S OFFENSE - THE TRIPLE OPTION!

OR:

BRING ME MIKE LEACH and LET'S SET THE SEC ON FIRE WITH 75 PASSES A GAME!

YES, I WENT TO THE FLYING SAUCER AND ENJOYED SOME ADULT CONVERSATION AND BEVERAGES. YES, MY WIFE WAS THERE. YES, IT WAS FUN.

UGA plays USCe around the third week so they won't agree to an early season meet up. That leaves only the mid season to play that rival game.

Easier to just play in Athens twice and then alternate to avoid two major road games within three weeks as Snags mentioned.

Don't care about the conference championship if our chief rival can just walk into the playoffs with one or even two loses based on the "eye test."

Don't care about 6 or 8 team playoff scenarios. Never cared for fucking wild card ANYTHING in any sport. Why have divisions if winning them in the regular season doesn't matter? Stupid and only important to money grubbing networks. Make everyone conform (Notre Dame) and reward regular season divisional / conference champs as it was intended.

No to triple option, no to air raid.
Not sustainable.
Look to the model which is the NFL.
I didn't pick it, it just is!

Give me Freeze for a season and retain his tried and true pass concepts
which worked against everybody.
Work non-stop on that offensive line.
Work on run defense.
Win it all next season.
Celebrate.
Forget everything you learned.
Back to square one.

The Freeze thing still chaps my ass a bit.  I think that guy would be an asset on any coaching staff.  I don't think that the SEC should necessarily tell a team that they can or cannot hire certain coaches.
