For some reason, I thought they were paws that looked like the Clemson logo. I have searched the googled chromes with no luck though. I probably have a book or an old newspaper clipping at home that has a picture of them somewhere.
I know for sure they were eagles. Barfield, I’m pretty sure, started the practice of putting them on helmets for big plays (like OSU with the buckeyes and UGA with the bones).
Dumb story but I copied them for softball when I was helping coach a women’s team in 1980.
There was some story back then about how they were designed and what the angles/curves represented. I’ve got kids in college doing marketing research and I thought they’d be a good example of an idea that wasn’t bad but was rejected by the consumer. Everybody else is doing New Coke. Ha.
I didn’t expect the story of the helmet stickers being this hard to find.
