I'd say that McCain was "calling a spade a spade" but I'd probably be moderated for being racist and incendiary...
By the way for those who think that using this phrase is racist...here's what Wikipedia says about it:
To "call a spade a spade" is to speak honestly and directly about a topic, specifically topics that others may avoid speaking about due to their sensitivity or embarrassing nature.
