Sorry, call me a vaj, gay, dumbass...whatever. I've endured a lot over the years. This will be no different. Snagette loves her some pageant. ALWAYS has. If there is a Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Wiregrass, Miss Possum Trot....doesn't matter. She is there with 5 other people on speed text, breaking down every aspect of the event.
Tonight was Snags Lite's birthday. Had some family over. About the time we finished with wings, cake, presents etc. Miss America came on. Immediately, the women take over the den TV. Normally, I retreat to another room and TV for more important stuff like college football replays. Unfortunately, I got roped into watching a good bit of this one. I'm not the untrained eye. I have been called on to judge quite a few local pageants over the years. But like so many of these things recently, the fix was in on this one.
Race has dominated these pageants over the last decade. No more obvious than tonight. They start with 50 and right off the bat, narrow it down to 15. Every single "woman of color" was picked. The only "competitions" they have are talent and answering a question. I tried to avoid it, but from two rooms away, I heard someone "singing". I got up to make sure the dogs weren't being tormented. It was a black girl from Massachusetts. She was so fucking bad, I couldn't stop laughing. I asked Snagette how the hell she could have won a state competition? She...was....fucking....awful. No bias. No preconceived notions. Just an off key wailing from two rooms away. She made top 5.
There was one white girl in the top 5. She was out first. You figure out the rest.
The other notable thing was that the hosts were a woman and a man. The woman ran the entire show. The man was a guy named Ross, who has been a joke guest on late night talk shows as a gay, comedy relief. He's a chubby, gay guy who throws out a few funny lines. He had zero part in the show. He stood there completely quiet while the woman called out all the runners up and winners.
The only thing I'll give them credit for is they stayed away from political crap. But, this was a joke. I tried to avoid it and wound up pissed.
