Annual TU Day on the Planes. Have to give my armchair QB, totally clueless observations. Bullet points:
Parked in the Coliseum parking lot right at the Tiger Walk exit and walked up Donahue to JHS. Bruce Pearl stepped up on the sidewalk next to me and I got to talk to him for a couple of minutes. Aww, you ain't never met Martin Luther the Pearl. I'm sure many of you have run across Pearl and yes, he comes across as a wired, personable and genuine dude. I didn't ask for a selfie. I'm 57.
We started out in JHS. The players were in shells today. I went down to the wall in the south end zone and played fan boy, trying to sniff a few jock straps. Talked to Steele for a few seconds. He didn't cuss me. The DB's were all right in front of me warming up and talking trash. Smoke Monday is a full grown man. As are Jamel Dean and Daniel Thomas.
They worked on kick offs to start and the bottom line is, Carlson has a cannon for a leg. And Shaun Shivers is about 4'3", put together like a tank and can absolutely fly. (Pilot's license GF) Shitcherpants fast.
A storm came up and we all moved to the indoor facility. That was even better because I could almost rub weenies with all of the players. Mainly running through different offensive and defensive sets. Worked a ton on the quick hitters to my man crush, Ryan Davis. Looks like Anthony Feel The Schwarts, is the second option there. See shitcherpants above.
The QB's did a lot of throwing. Two NFL scouts there from the Giants and Redskins. Stidham is just in a class by himself. So damn good. Gatewood didn't practice. (Word is, he ain't seeing the field at QB. Dumb as a box o'rocks) Cord Sandberg easily looked better throwing the ball than any of the others. Good size. Lefty. Very accurate.
O-Line: Winnebago, Harrell, Kim, Horton and Driscoll were the starting 5.
Receivers: Nate Craig Meyers is freaky big. So are several of the incoming freshmen like Seth Williams and Matthew Hill along with Shedrick Jackson. Sal caught a ball. Eli Stove practiced. Had a heavy brace on but ran well. However, you could tell he's not 100%. I would assume a redshirt for him. We've got numbers and athletes at the position.
D-Line: Honestly didn't get to see a lot of them. I did watch Coyniss Miller run several one on one drills. He's definitely a bad ass. Super athletic but needs a year with Coach Russell to get that gut off and get in SEC shape.
Different vibe to this team from what I've seen in years past. Rarely seen that much energy and excitement in a team. They were fired up in JHS and even more so at the indoor. If the O-Line gels and Malzahn stays out of it, they should be battling for the West come Iron Bowl time. JMO.
