I'm guilty of this shit, too, but let me ask of all of us Xers. As the season of toe-to-leather approaches, can we create in this space (or sub-forum, as the case may be) a place free of political animus?
Can we confine that rancor and vitriol to the forum designed for that purpose?
I'm practically begging, because football season is my (maybe our, collective) escape from the awfulness of political discourse.
Pretty please, with a cherry on top, clean the fuckin car.
It doesn't have to be awful.
It is, in fact, necessary for the continuation of this country. You may think it's bad now, but it's always been bad. I suggest you read up on Preston Brooks.
You just hear more about it for two reasons:
1) The butthurt snowflake trigger bitches lost. When the other side loses, we (mostly) grudgingly accept it and work on the next time. Not so now. There's still a small but loud contingent of loons who reject the undeniable success so far and still earnestly believe they can somehow get a reset on 2016.
2) The incessant braying of the media. There was a time the news was the news. Journalists reported what happened, they didn't create what they wanted to happen and try to force it on us. Except that's a lie, too. The penchant for crusading journalists goes back before the Civil War. I'd suggest you look into Hearst and Pulitzer for some more info on how things used to be and are again.
The biggest problem we have now is that there's no break. The news channels are on 24/7 looking for something to talk about, something that will get people to look at them. It permeates everything, ESPN included. You can't get away from it and every bit of it is ragingly partisan.
Still, we need to have those discussions. If you never hear anything but your own voice, you'll never learn anything. You're right that we don't need to have them here, though. Football here.
