http://blog.al.com/goldmine/2008/10/auburn_still_looking_for_answe.htmlAuburn coach Tommy Tuberville reiterated Sunday that Tony Franklin will continue to coordinate his offense, and no one is going to panic over a struggling unit that failed to produce in Saturday's 14-13 loss to Vanderbilt.
That said, Tuberville conceded that, ``The offense is behind where it needs to be. We've got to find some answers.''
Tuberville said the offensive coaches are working to figure out the next step.
``We've just got to look ourselves in the eye...and score more points,'' he said.
Auburn has fallen to 104th in the nation in total offense.
The Tigers were sharp in the first quarter against Vandy, but gained just 82 yards over the final three quarters.
``I thought the game plan was good. We came out scoring...but something happen in the second quarter. I thought the plan was good, but we've got to find a way to finish.''
Other highlights from Tuberville's media chat:
On the spread offense:
``It's going to get better.'' And... ``You've got to be able to throw the football.''
Auburn actually ran little of the true spread during stretches of the game.
Tuberville said Franklin is the ``one changing it. A good coach is going to change for personnel.''
``I think Tony's done a good job of adjusting. I don't know whether we've done a good job of adjusting to what we've gone to. But, he's our offensive coordinator. He's worked harder than anybody here, and he's as disappointed as anybody here. And he takes as much of the blame. He probably takes more blame than he should.''
On the offensive coaching staff:
``Everybody is fine. Everybody is in the same roles. That's not our problem right now.''
On possible problems:
``Most of that talk is Internet talk.''
On quarterback Kodi Burns:
``Some things he did well. Some things he didn't. But that was everybody on the team.''
On the QB play of Burns and Chris Todd:
``We have to improve at the quarterback position for us to win games the rest of the season.''
On possible changes:
``We started the morning at daylight, not just looking at this film, but every film.''
The changes could include ``moving players around.''
``We're still searching,'' he said.
On moving away from the successful first-quarter running game:
``In hindsight, we probably could have done it a little more in the second half.''
On injuries:
Defensive lineman Sen'Derrick Marks (ankle): X-rays were negative.
Defensive back Jerraud Powers (hamstring): Day-to-day. ``He's a little sore. Not real bad.'' Tuberville said.
Tailback Brad Lester (knee): He ran it twice, ``but he wasn't the same Lester.''
Robert Dunn (ankle): ``Hopefully, he'll practice this week.''
Linebacker Craig Stevens (turf toe): Lingering injury.
Defensive end Antonio Coleman: Pulled muscle in the back of a leg.
I give up trying to make any sense of this at all...
